In Steven Universe, every episode is normally built on another episode. Unlike some other shows, Steven Universe never rushes. They make sure you know enough before they send the blow. Like it took them (I believe) 20 episodes before they revealed what happened when the HomeWorld Gems came. That`s almost 2 months they spent on the same topic!
It may seem like that`s bad, but it`s good to have that dramatic effect. Unlike Adventure Time, every episode leads up to this "bomb" where Peridot, Jasper, and Lapis Lazuli come, and this time between that is used to let the viewer know all the information they need to know for this, so they know what`s happening, with a couple of side-track episodes.
Steven Universe`s story arcs are well thought out and planned. They know the right time when to "drop the bomb" and reveal the entire plan. They satisfy the viewer in every way, knowing they never rush into things to quickly. They spend enough time so that you KNOW why HomeWorld is here and you KNOW Steven and Connie`s friendship. They make sure you know what you want to know and what you need to know to make the story feel complete!

I just wanna point out something you said in the beginning. You mentioned how there are some episodes that you don't like, even though you love Steven Universe. Well, I don't know your age, but I'd like to point out that this show is originally meant for younger audiences, so they have to keep it light sometimes.
