Riddle Number Two

A man and his son were rock climbing on a cliff when they fell. The father died, but the son lived and was rushed to the hospital. The surgeon who was supposed to operate on the boy said "I can't operate on this boy! He is my son!" (Don't ask me why, I don't know.) Explain.
Hint: It has nothing to do with adoptions or crazy things like that!
