Night before Duel Day

DAWN'S POV

My eyes fluttered open. It was still dark out. The next day was the day of the first duels. I sat at the edge of my bed and quickly changed. I went to the practice room to warm up before the duels, after all, I couldn't sleep. The moon was in the sky, but no stars where seen, as of they where hiding from the duel day. Suddenly a gust of wind hit me and I fell face first into a stream. "Airion... Is that you?" I asked. "Sorry." He mumbled. "I'm guessing you couldn't rest." He said. I nodded. "I'm really sorry about yesterday." I finally said. "I was just upset and angry at myself. I shouldn't have taken it out on you." I confessed. He looked at me, then at the ground and smiled. "Did you honestly think I was upset about that?" He laughed. "You're not?" I asked, relieved. He shook his head. "It's ok. I mean, that's happened to me before." I was really happy he understood. "Are you nervous about tomorrow?" I asked sitting on a bench. He sighed. "Who's not." I nodded. Who would I get paired with? Would I fight the next day? "I'm just scared.. That I'll get paired with you." Airion whispered. I looked at him. He looked dead serious. "I know." I said. "I know."

AMETHYST'S POV

I couldn't sleep. I really couldn't even concentrate. "Duels." I thought. I stood up and took a shower, but that didn't help. I decided going for a walk in the gardens was a more prudent choice. I was sitting on one of the stone benches when I saw Zane plop in next to me. "Hey!" I said. "Hi." He replied.   We talked about the duels and who we thought was going to be paired with who. We laughed until I forgot about the fact that the duels where the next day. After a while we went and kept walking around the garden and laughing and talking. It seemed like midnight when we bumped into another boy and girl. I recognized the girl from the day when we got picked. The guy was... "AIRION!" I yelped. I hugged him for a long time. "Amethyst right!?" Asked the girl. "Your brother has told me ALL about you!" She exclaimed. Zane and Airion where already talking about "boy" stuff I had no clue about. "My name's Dawn!" The girl said. Soon, Dawn had become one of my best friends, beside Zane and Ashe. After they all left. I was left alone, thinking, if I make it... That would happen every day. Before I knew it,  I wasn't worried about duel day anymore. I would survive.
