Chapter Seven

A few years passed and me and Surge were closer than we ever were. Surge had taken me out on numerous dates and helped me find a job. I was now working full time in a restaurant serving the food. It wasn’t much but it paid the rent and allowed me to buy some nice clothes. Sapphire was also in a job now. She was an accountant. Sapphire was finding the job stressful but was enjoying it immensely.

I was just coming out of work and saw that Surge was waiting for me. I ran over to him and as he saw me, he opened his arms up and I threw myself into them.

“How was work princess?” He asked kissing both of my cheeks at least twenty times making me blush madly.

“Mayhem, we had a restaurant critic come in today and I nearly tripped over. The table cloths are way too long.” I looked up as I heard Surge chuckle. “What’s so funny?”

“Oh nothing, just your ranting. It’s cute” He bent down and kissed the end of my nose, making me blush. He took my hand and started walking us home. We talked about how our days had gone and how much we had missed each other.

“Oh, can we go on a walk tonight Maria?”

“Yeah of course Surge.”

“Good, because I uh… need to ask you something… Important…” What could he possibly want to ask? He is happy with me isn’t he? I mean, his reaction when I came out from work didn’t suggest that he wasn’t happy with me…

Night-time came and Surge came to pick me up as normal but something wasn’t right, he seemed nervous and fidgety. This wasn’t like him, what he wanted to ask must have been bugging him for quite a while. We walked to the park like usual and I sat on the edge of the fountain, looking up at the stars. They seemed a lot brighter than usual. Something was definitely up.

“Maria… Can I ask you something?” I looked down at him and smiled.

“Of course Honey, what’s wrong?” Surge then got down onto one knee and pulled out a black box. I gasped. Was he doing what I think he was doing?!

“Maria, Will you marry me?”
