~Chapter Three~

I opened my eyes to a bright new day. It was- I noticed the formal, short white dress hanged in my closet. It was "JOB TOUR!" Exclaimed Faith, nearly jumping into the room. She was wearing t-shirt that had been cut up to cover only one shoulder and short-shorts. She had her hair in a high ponytail and she had small opal earrings on.
I bolted upon my bed. "Faith! You're supposed to be changed by now.." I got up and picked up the white dress. "Oh, but I am!" Faith grinned as she turned around slowly, displaying her terribly CASUAL and... rebel-ish outfit. "Opal means CONFIDENCE... I need to start acting like that!" She jumped excitedly and hurried into the kitchen.
Opal, wasn't it.. Sapphire; lets see. It meant wisdom.. purity.. I acted exactly like that. My purity would never let me break rules and wear Faith's outfit, and my wisdom didn't see the CLEVER part to it, just the part that it was against the rules. I put on the dress and put on a sapphire necklace. Just then, Aaron walked into my room.
He was mumbling while reading, with his headphones on. "AARON! How can you read while you listen to music?" I exclaimed! "Well.." Aaron took off his headset. "I have my playlist set in the exact order of all the events in this book. It took me 6 reads of it to get all the music perfectly." He started to put his headset back on. "So you basically have the music synced to the book.." I raised my eyebrows.
Aaron wasn't listening to me anymore. He walked away reading. I giggled and walked out of my room just as my mother was walking in. "Lets go." She said firmly. I shrugged in reply. "Breakfast-?" I looked at her. "-Will be served there." My mother finished my sentence. I got into our car with Faith and we took off. "Mother, have you not seen her dressing?" I pointed accusingly at Faith.
My mother didn't reply, so I decided to drop the topic. "I'm gonna be a scholar!" I cheered. "Not yet.." Faith pointed out. "In one and a-half weeks." I rolled my eyes for the first time in what seemed months. "Whatever.." The word felt strange to say.. I had almost never said it before.. Even though Aaron and Faith used it almost every day.
Faith seemed to notice and raised an eyebrow. The car lurched to a stop as my mother parked in a large building with gigantic windows on every one of the 12 stories. I gaped and ran out of the car. Faith gave the building a crooked smile and adjusted her ponytail. "You must be.. Faith & Safira Night!" A man in a suite said walking over to us.
He didn't seem disgusted at Faith's clothing which surprised me. "Right this way." My mother stayed behind as the man led us into the building and handed us each a large and slim tablet. I tapped onto the screen and it lit up. "Press your birthstone." The man instructed to Faith and I. Images of all the birthstones popped up and I confidently pressed Sapphire.
The man checked his own tablet and smiled. "So we have a Sapphire and a Opal." He mused. "My names Mr. Wifry, by the way." He continued. "What now?" Faith interrupted. I shot her a glance. "That was rude." I whispered. "Casual for an Opal.." Mr. Wifry said, after hearing what I had said. I nodded in confusion. "Now.. let's get t the job observing."

Backstory: When Kaira was 3, her house burned down in a terrible fire. Her father burned to death and her mother died on a hospital bed without finishing her last words. Kaira soon was adopted by her cousin Adam and his girlfriend Alesa. At school, however, she was constantly bullied. One of her most feared incidents happened when a bully tried to steal her amulet, a small silver dragon with wings outstretched and one sapphire eye surrounding a yin-yang symbol. She fiercely fought them off and from then on was feared by everyone except Rose, her best friend. When Rose was shot and killed during a robbery, however, Kaira became rather reclusive and spoke to no one. She eventually got help from a friend named Sam and has lived a happier life ever since.

Backstory: Cass was found on the streets at about five years old. No one knew where he came from, because no family was ever found. He didn't even know his name. The orphanage where he came from called him 'Cass', which meant 'lost case'. He ran away at the age of thirteen, so far from civilisation he didn't get a job tour until he was 16. He was given the nickname 'Wild-boy' by his colleagues and now works at the job tours showing people around.

Other/Backstory: Dawn has always suspected that there was more to life than just birthstones. She tries to fit into the Ruby stereotype, and does a good job of it, though she knows, hopes, believes there's more. She, just like the Ruby gem, is passionate and full of love, and every now and then is too proud for her own good. She plans on asking Faith, Aaron (who she likes but refuses to acknowledge the feeling since according to the city everyone has a specified match) and Safira if they might know if there's anything out there besides her city, and wants to become a Council member like Faith because she thinks that they know what goes on in the outside world.
