"We still have 3 weeks.." Faith said with a bit of sadness. "I remember when I was 5 and the job choosing seemed so far away." I added in. Faith raised both of her eyebrows. "I want to run away Saf.." She whispered. I sat up, alarmed. "You want to.. WHAT!?" What in the world had gotten into Faith? She was acting different.
"It must be so much fun.. to live on my own.. surviving in nature and-" I cut her off a simple hand gesture. She smiled and looked at me. "I was only kidding Safira.." She laughed. I raised one eyebrow, but soon found myself laughing along with her. "CAN YOU GUYS CUT IT OUT!" Screamed Aaron from downstairs. I stopped laughing.

THIRD PERSON POV
Aaron sat in his room, laying on his bed, for the first time in the entire day he was not reading. He heard Safira and Faith conferring about their futures, and that got him to think quite a bit. The garnet was one of the least powerful stones. He could become a researcher, although the idea didn't exactly please him.
He wanted to be able to be free from those horrible rules of jobs and be able to.. act however he wanted. He loved reading, mainly because when he read he felt free. He felt like there where no rules or limitations to the world. The only thing he ever wanted to do was be a scholar, like I was gonna be. He wanted to create these feeling for others.
Of course, he couldn't. He couldn't because he was a garnet. He wiped all those thoughts away and went to the living room to watch some television. He turned it on.. a speech from the "Quinter" the law maker. Faith and Safira ran down the stairs just in time to hear the sentence that would change their lives:
"You need to be born by the rules. Live by the rules. Die by the rules... or die because you did the opposite."
The three where silent as Aaron turned off the TV. "I'm sorry.. for putting that channel.." He mumbled as he trudged back into his room. He kept quite, but those words had affected him more than anything else ever said had. He would die by the rules.. or.. He sat up. "No. I'm gonna die because I didn't follow them."
"Aaron has been awfully quiet." Faith whispered in a hoarse tone. Safira stared out at space. Keeping quiet herself. "Faith, you should um.. you should get ready for the job tour next week." She said dryly. Safira's sister nodded and hurried out of my room. Safira decided to change the boring and thick atmosphere.
Safira started humming a song and even picked out one of Aaron's books to read. She tried to make 3 weeks seem as far away as possible, but they where only days. Or hours. Or minutes- or however you would want to put it. Suddenly , she had a breakthrough. What WAS so bad about this job sorting? She just made it seem bad.
Safira smiled broadly, trying to hide her real fear. "Dinner's ready." Her mom's sharp voice called form the first story. She closed the book and yawned. It had been a very boring day. Every single day in the week was exactly the same..

Backstory: When Kaira was 3, her house burned down in a terrible fire. Her father burned to death and her mother died on a hospital bed without finishing her last words. Kaira soon was adopted by her cousin Adam and his girlfriend Alesa. At school, however, she was constantly bullied. One of her most feared incidents happened when a bully tried to steal her amulet, a small silver dragon with wings outstretched and one sapphire eye surrounding a yin-yang symbol. She fiercely fought them off and from then on was feared by everyone except Rose, her best friend. When Rose was shot and killed during a robbery, however, Kaira became rather reclusive and spoke to no one. She eventually got help from a friend named Sam and has lived a happier life ever since.

Backstory: Cass was found on the streets at about five years old. No one knew where he came from, because no family was ever found. He didn't even know his name. The orphanage where he came from called him 'Cass', which meant 'lost case'. He ran away at the age of thirteen, so far from civilisation he didn't get a job tour until he was 16. He was given the nickname 'Wild-boy' by his colleagues and now works at the job tours showing people around.

Other/Backstory: Dawn has always suspected that there was more to life than just birthstones. She tries to fit into the Ruby stereotype, and does a good job of it, though she knows, hopes, believes there's more. She, just like the Ruby gem, is passionate and full of love, and every now and then is too proud for her own good. She plans on asking Faith, Aaron (who she likes but refuses to acknowledge the feeling since according to the city everyone has a specified match) and Safira if they might know if there's anything out there besides her city, and wants to become a Council member like Faith because she thinks that they know what goes on in the outside world.
