Transformation

It was the day of the test.

The test happened on the third day of the third month of the thirteenth year after you are born. It was called the ‘Tralloro’ after the names of the tribe.

“Tr for Tramcle,
Al for Lavada,
Lo for Lotisia
Ro for Rosetta.”

She had been taught this in school, yet still she was nervous for this day to come. Who could blame her? The test would prove weather she held and enough magical power, by letting her survive or killing her off without a moment hesitation.”

She was shaking with fear as she stepped up onto the pedestal in the middle of the capital city Ellionna. Standing before her was the Great King Aaron and at his sides was the rulers of the Tribes. He smiled a cruel smile a her fate as here wore white, the colour of death. Evalïne wore red, the symbol of hope, and stood out in a field of black camouflage. The Great King Aaron smirked at her as he reached for the bracelet on the table before him. As rain poured down on them in the clearing as he reached out and grabbed her arm with such force she almost cried out in pain, but stopped and thought of the evil pleasure that others would feel if she did.

“Evalïne Sparrow, it is the third day of the third month of the thirteenth year after you were born, you come before the tribes so great to prove your glory is enough to remain alive in the passing year?” The Great King Aaron said as he slipped the bracket onto her wrist.

“Yes, I, Evalïne Sparrow, on the third day of the third month of the thirteenth year after I was born stand before the tribes so great so that I can meet my fate.” Evalïne said as she placed her free hand down on the bracelet.

Hey that rhymes! She thought, but than she forgot all of that as she started glowing white. Magic energy poured through her, followed by pain, pain so unbearable that she screamed.

“You are dying Evalïne Sparrow, speak in these last few moments of your life, Evalïne Sparrow, speak!”

But Evalïne couldn’t as she felt feathers tickling her skin. She couldn’t as her mouth hardened. She couldn't as she grew smaller. She couldn’t as she flew to the heavens. But she howled as she fell out of the sky, her tail flying in the wind. And she landed in a shoulder roll with a dare.

“I dare you, O Great and Mighty King Aaron. I dare you to tell me I failed again. I. DARE. YOU.”

The King reached for his Dagger but it was gone, as well as the amulet on her neck. He yelled for guards but she had already disappeared into the sky…

                                                * * *

Evalïne reached for the amulet at her neck. They were the main source of power that controlled, even people with thousands of years of practise could not cast a spell without one. The amulets were called Alenders. Since they were hard to make you only got one in your life time, so the King would be useless if he was just a normal being but since the Great King Aaron was so powerful he ordered a new amulet. But it would never be the same.

When you opened your eyes for the first time after the test, your soul would leave your body and it would go and find an elemental force and capture it, leaving it in your amulet.  Your soul would stay there forever, unless it was won by one of higher power. Then your soul would search for a new one, and it often failed, leaving you without personality and power, often to take your own life. The Great King Aaron through, he ordered for a new Alender, luckily the tribe leaders had spells placed on them to catch their missing soul if it ever should escape.

The Great King Aaron had managed to retrieve his soul, but not before his kindness escaped. He tried to hide this but word got out and the simple villagers with no magic power rebelled and destroyed the tribes. All because of her, Evalïne would stand in trial for this along side Anise if Aaron came back.

Evalïne forgave Anise for destroying her life and family. She forgave Anise for killing of her people, humans, beasts, and elves alike. She forgave Anise for leaving her with no mentor to teach her magic. And she forgave Anise because they had both lost so mush than.

Evalïne threw her hand in air and her head back screamed in anger as all her past hatred came back.
