Chapter 10.

Good Friend Rivals

Since the day the castle exploded, all monsters had fled, and Toffee no where in sight possibly dead as assumed Lotil remained hidden away in her own home at the edge of the Forest of Certain Death trying to distract her from everything that had happened. She practiced training herself and learning to move swiftly and quietly, while hit some rock targets a silhouette appeared just a few feet away from the hybrid was aware of the intruder's presence.

"Nice too see you finally make it over here Hickory" Lotil acknowledged the hyena cat who came into full view.

"Sorry, I love like a mile away from here so it would take a while especially by foot" Hickory pointed out.

The hybrid looked over at her "Really? Where do you live anyway?"

"I live up there in the Jaggy Mountains in what use to be an abandoned Monster house pretty far of a walk" she took out a map of something from her side pocket opening it up for Lotil too see.

The hybrid examined the map which was all areas of Mewni "Wow, that must be tiring coming all this way"

Hickory shrugged "Not really, after a while you grow use too it unlike you I doubt you could make that far. You've always used you're wings when flying off towards places that are really far but now you have to proceed by foot something you probably couldn't handle."

Lotil growled "Are you saying I couldn't handle it?" She asked the other hybrid.

Hickory smiled "No, I know you couldn't handle" she grinned smugly.

The lizard wolf smiled in response "Well how about a race? Whoever can make it to the Jaggy Mountains first by foot only is the best distant traveler."

Hickory jumped up excited "Oh your on!"

Both hybrids shook hands in agreement and with a quick handshake both Monsters have already got themselves a head start. Hickory using the trees with Lotil doing the same as her, each of them leaped as far as they could to get a step farther back from the other to earn the lead. Lotil already making progress throws some branches at the hyena cat too slow her down, Hickory falls off the branch she had grasped on too falling backwards quickly grips the side of the tree clawing it ending in a skid downwards she hisses annoyed.

"No fair! You distracted me!" The hybrid leaped back up the tree after Lotil.

Lotil looking slightly back at Hickory laughed "Life isn't fair, gotta just expect the unexpected" she said aloud but not paying attention the hybrid crashed directly into a tree.

Hickory leaping past the lizard wolf taunted "Bet you didn't expect that now did you?" Lotil groaned in response.

The hyena cat than leaped away leaving behind Lotil who grunted regaining her balance followed after Hickory.

Ahead of the lizard wolf, Hickory continued jumping to branch to branch to branch looking ahead her movements quick and careful making leaves on the branches break loose dancing below the hybrid. Lotil being agile and quite swift caught up to Hickory, both hybrids got tense and more concentrated on winning this little race, finally being neck in neck unaware that all their tree leaping was disturbing a near by creature's slumber.
As each hybrid got closer to the location of the Jaggy Mountains a thunderous roar broke out from behind them shaking the Earth and trees, Lotil and Hickory both immediately fall out of the trees landing hard on the ground.

"Ow...what in the name of Mewni was that?" Hickory wondered sitting up straight a hand placed on her head.

Lotil sat up dusting herself off "No clue actually. It sounded like a roar."

While the hybrids wondered what the sudden noise was, large thumping footsteps came towards them both as something larger than they are overshadowed them. It had a very long neck. No wait. It had seven very long necks, grey skin, all heads having orange eyes, four legs, and an extremely long tail.

Hickory was horribly terrified at the beast backing away "What is that!?" She shouted.

"A hydra" Lotil responded stunned at the sight of it.

The hydra suddenly unleashed a mighty roar resulting both Monsters to turn and flee into the area of the Jaggy Mountains the hydra following it's multiple heads snapping at Hickory and Lotil. Hickory screamed terrified scratched at one of the Hydra heads in the eye turning and running leaving that one head in agony from the acid in it's newly damaged eye burn giving both her and Lotil a chance to escape and hide.
The hybrids began climbing up one side of the mountain in attempts to avoid the rampaging monster, the hydra returned but with one of it's heads apparently getting dragged now from the acid Hickory through in it's eye must have killed that head. Lotil threw rocks at the beast to slow it down while Hickory climbing ahead finds a huge boulder hanging over the edge of a cliff.

"Lotil! I have an idea, I just need your help to do it!" Hickory shouted down to the lizard wolf.

Lotil looked up to find Hickory trying to push a boulder off the cliff "Alright! I'll be right there" she shouted back.

Lotil threw one more set of rocks at the hydra before climbing up after Hickory to stand aside her. Both hybrids gave a simple nod too each other they leaned on the boulder and with all strength they had attempted to shove it off the edge of the cliff onto the hydra which was slowly climbing it's way towards them both.

Lotil huffed "Just. One more. Push!" She encouraged.

Hickory against her back growled "Come on! Stupid rock move!"

Finally with one more shove to the side, the boulder had budged and rolled down the mountain hitting the hydra both tumbling down the rocky terrain crushed the mystical Monster once landing at the bottom of the mountain. Lotil and Hickory cheered full of success giving each other a high - four climbed down the mountain side to look over the dead hydra.

Hickory stood proudly next to the beast "Haha! Not so tough now!" She taunted the unmoving beast.

Lotil laughed "Yeah, well it was fun hanging out with you Hick I should be going" the hybrid stretched.

Hickory nodded arms crossed "We'll just call this race a draw for now LoLo, next time we come here let's battle at my place" she offered kindly.

Lotil smiled at her "I'm looking forward to it. See you soon!" Waving goodbye to the hyena cat and returning to her home.

Once Lotil had got to her house she's barely been getting any sleep, repeated nightmares and unwelcomed thoughts always give her trouble sometimes. The whole night, the hybrid stared at the ceiling in her bed utterly broken from everything that happened lately in her life just took a deep breathe and walked around the house to think.

Why is this happening? These nightmares never end and these thoughts of seeing Toffee again...that's something I don't believe will be reality again. I'm unsure if he's even alive!
In addition seeing visions of my father again. No. I don't wish too see him, not after all that but it's not his fault or mine I just...I just wish things could have been different...

While dancing with her own mind a knock came at the door confusing the hybrid. "Now who could that be?"

Making her way up to the door, another knocked approached it making Lotil jump back but calmed down, turned the knob, and opened her door to find an orange lizard monster with brown markings, grey tank top, and blue jeans stand in front of her. The hybrid got tense and stared at the Monster wide eyed.

The lizard monster had a nervous smile on his face "Hey, Tilly."

Lotil was speechless the only word she could barely spit out was something she never thought of saying again: "Dad?"
