Poems about dogs

Poems about dogs

I have written a few poems about dogs that I'd like to share with my fellow qfeasters! And sure, it is random, but why am I writing this? I love dogs!!!

Dogs leave dents in your hearts
if you've had one you'll know it's true
the way you hold on to them for so long
then one day they have lost you...
I once had my heart set
on a husky dog
I pleaded my parents
and begged on my knees
but the answer was always no,
"We have no time for an animal,"
my dad shouted in anger one day,
"I think we have enough on our minds
we've got plenty of bills to pay!"
I felt so alone
as everyone else had a dog
Tracey had a Labrador
Annie had a Pug
but I was always the odd one out
as I simply had none...
It was on my 11th birthday
the best day of my life!
My heart was filled to the gunnels with joy
no more sorrow and no more strife!
As I walked into the kitchen
dad's hands covering my eyes
I opened them
and to my surprise
a dog was on the floor!
He wasn't what I'd expected
I wanted a husky dog
but at least I wasn't the odd one out
I had a puppy dog now!
Dad said he was a mongrel
a Toy Fox Terrier hybrid
only a puppy
a cute one as well!
My dream had now come true!
I decided to name him Snicker
as he usually went nuts
but he always had a soft spot
the part of him I loved ever so much!
But friendship doesn't last for ever
and trust me
this one was far too quick
as after a few years had passed
we found out Snicker was sick.
"Demodectic Mange,"
was what the vet had said,
"this can lead to Cancer you know,
but we'll do all that we can."
and they did do all that they could
and I know they tried their best
but all they could do was wait and see
what would happen next...
There was no winning
as I knew what would happen
I knew that Snicker would die
the vet said this could lead to Cancer
and there's NO denying that.
What do you know
6 weeks later
we were digging Snicker's grave
I felt so bad
I wanted to cry
but I knew he'd be looking down on me
he wouldn't want me to cry
he'd want me to be happy
for him and for his life
so I held in the tears
smiled and sighed
and carried on with my life...
2013
it's been only 2 years
since my dear Snicker died
I was offered my first dream
a Siberian Husky
but I couldn't face the consequences
I can't bare going through
the same experience
knowing my dog's going to die.
So here I am now
I may act all tough
but my heart always aches of this pain
no matter what
there's no denying
that dogs leave dents in your heart...
