Wolves Of The Ravine (abandoned)

Chapter 3

"I've never seen an outsider for quite a few Sun Turns." A soft feminine voice whispered. "And he certainly seems like a pup at its last stage."

"He's lucky he didn't miss the ledge, or else he'd be a goner." Another voice grunted. "He's also lucky we found him, or else he'd be infected by the scratches." Ferone dare didn't move, the atmosphere made his fur shiver. From the sounds of it, he certainly wasn't in heaven- or the lovely paradise Marigold called it. He was probably alive but he felt surprisingly numb.

Suddenly a paw probed him harshly, Ferone awoke with a choke and almost gagged. "So looks like he was playing dead." Came a voice of amusement. He awoke to a sharp ray of sunlight, which he'd thought he'd never see again. In front of his face were two extraordinarily large Huskies, well, at least, they looked like them.

"Well pup, you should be thanking us." The large grey husky, or at least what he thought was one- Said playfully in a broad voice.

"Don't be so harsh on him." The beige husky snapped, contrary to the amusement that was dancing in her eyes. "He's just a pup, aren't you, little wolf?"

Wolf? Ferone cocked his head at the word. "Little wolf? I'm a husky!" When he spoke, the 'huskies' looked at him blankly.

"You're a wolf, I don't know of this husky business you're talking about." The grey wolf muttered. "And you clearly look like one, you have the perfect legs, fluffy tail, long snout-"

"I'm a wolf?" Ferone interrupted him anxiously. "What's good about being a wolf? I can't be a monster! And where am I?!"

"Lots." The beige wolf replied. "Unlike most of these 'dogs' over here, we bother to catch our own food." She glanced over into an unknown distance bitterly. But before Ferone could question her anymore a dark brown wolf had padded in.

His eyes were a wise amber and seemed green in the shading of the strange shelter they were in. He glanced at Ferone with a haunting suspicion. "I suppose the pup survived." Then he added wistfully. "Interesting."

"Alpha, don't be so cocky around him." The beige wolf informed him. The dark brown wolf, which Ferone guessed was Alpha had acknowledged her with a flick of his tail. Alpha looked at him, his sharp gaze softened.

"So pup, where did you come from?" Alpha questioned him, waiting patiently for an answer.

Ferone frowned, now thinking of it- he had not known much of his origins. He remembered Marigold finding him, and the silhouette of his mother when she left, ever since, all he had known was Marigold caring for him. He recited the story to Alpha, who listened without any reaction, neither good or bad. "I do not know if the words you speak are true, but we will discuss this another time." Alpha simply replied. "Now, all I will say is- welcome to our pack. We are the wolves of the ravine."
