Chapter 2
Later on, Daniela walked to her locker. She opened her locker and put her things inside and took out her lunchbox. She suddenly felt a poke on her side. Daniela jumped. "I’m sorry, did I startle you?" a boy laughed behind her. She turned around. Carlos stood in front of her, smiling. "Oh, hey Carlos, I would’ve walked with you back here, but I didn’t see you come out of the classroom," claimed Daniela. "Oh no, it’s fine. The geometry teacher needed to talk to me, " Carlos told her as he opened his locker and emptied his things inside. "You don’t bring lunch?" Daniela asked him as he closed his locker. Carlos shook his head, "Nope."Louis came up to the other side of Daniela and kissed her on the cheek and opened his locker. Carlos watched in shock. Louis closed his locker. He held Daniela’s hand and she held his. They both looked at Carlos. His eyes were wide open. "What?" Daniela asked him. "You two are dating?" Carlos asked them. Louis smirked at him, "For over a year." Daniela nodded, "Yup. So you wanna walk with us to lunch?" Carlos nodded and he and Louis walked with Daniela to the cafeteria.
They walked inside. "Carlos, are you going to sit with me or Louis?" Daniela inquired. I don’t want him to be sitting with her so I’ll have him sit with Frank and me, Louis thought. He immediately spoke up, "Carlos can sit with me, I sit at an all boys table." Suddenly, Daniela felt a tug on her arm.
"Come on Daniela! Let’s go sit down at the lunch table!" May told her. She looked at Carlos. Her eyes widened. "Alright, just give me a sec," Daniela told May. She let go of Louis’ hand and looked at Carlos, "So I guess you two are sitting together, right?" Louis nodded. "Okay. Well I gotta go, bye," Daniela waved to them and left with May.
Alexia, Allison, Hana, Paula, and Vimi watched as May and Daniela sat down. After they had settled down, May leaned over and whispered in Daniela’s ear, "Who was that guy you were standing next to?" Daniela raised an eyebrow and took out her sandwich from her lunchbox. "His name is Carlos, he’s new to the school. I’m directing him around," Daniela replied. May smiled, "I think he’s cute." "Aw," Daniela grinned, "yeah, I guess. But I think Louis is much cuter." Alexia overheard and began to laugh, "Of course you do, you’re dating him and practically in love with him." Daniela blushed and took a bite out of her sandwich.
Louis’ table got up and walked up to the cashier to buy lunch. Carlos looked over at Daniela’s table as he started to walk past. Louis watched him. May looked up to see Carlos looking over at the table. She smiled at him. Carlos slightly smiled back. Daniela looked up and waved to him. Carlos grinned and waved back. Louis rolled his eyes.
Frank watched as Louis walked to the lunch line looking irritated. Carlos happily stood behind Louis. "Hey Louis, you okay? You seem a bit irritated at something. But Carlos seems to be joyful," Frank asked Louis as he moved a step further in the line. Louis glared over at Carlos and then at Frank. "I think the new kid developed a ‘liking’ to my girlfriend," Louis told him. Frank raised an eyebrow, "Daniela? Are you sure?" Louis nodded, "Just look at him going goo-goo eyes at her." Frank looked at Carlos. He was staring over at Daniela’s table.
"Well how do you know it’s her? Maybe it’s May," Frank held out his hand in May’s direction. "No it’s definitely Dani. I see the way he acts towards her and looks at her. I even saw him poke her when I was walking down the hallway to my locker." Louis claimed. Frank sighed, "Look, this is not like the situation with Felix much over a year ago in 7th grade, you and Daniela are like the most inseparable couple ever known, to me. And according to May, the cutest Guatemalan couple." Louis smiled slightly trying his best to hide his happiness. Frank continued, "As long as your relationship goes well, which it definitely will, then you’ll be fine. Don’t worry. And I been through a few relationships, like the one with Kate. I thought it was true love, but it turned out it wasn’t. But you and Daniela, it’s something more," Frank smiled.
Louis looked at Daniela sitting at her table. She was laughing and smiling. "I’m still keeping an eye on him, just in case if he tries anything," Louis said as looked back at Frank. Frank held his hands up partially, "I won’t stop you." They got their lunch and went back to their table.
May smiled brightly, "Did you see? He smiled back at me!" Daniela laughed weakly and looked over at Carlos who was starting to sit back back down at Louis' table with his lunch. She smiled and looked at May, "Maybe you should talk to him." May looked at Daniela. She blushed, "Oh no, I can't." May shook her head. Allison couldn't help but overhear, "You should try." "Yeah come on, we have P.E. next right? So we don't need anything. Come with me to my locker after lunch, Carlos will be there so you can talk to him on our way to gym," suggested Daniela. May thought for a moment. "I guess that sounds like a plan," May stood up, "Now if you don't mind me, I'm going to go buy lunch." She walked off to the lunch line.
"So you're going to try to hook them up?" Hana asked Daniela. Daniela sighed, "Yes, I'm going to try. They'd be cute if you think about it, but I don't want to push Carlos too hard, he's new." Alexia nodded and laughed, "You wouldn’t want to scare him off."
Daniela closed her locker and pulled May and squeezed her between her and Carlos. "We should get going now shouldn’t we?" Daniela smiled. "Yeah come on," Louis put his arm around Daniela and they started walking down the hall. Carlos looked at each other and then started to walk behind them.
The group was silent except for the occasional Louis whispering in Daniela’s ear and her laughing. "So how do you like it here so far?" May finally asked Carlos. Carlos thought for a moment. He looked at Daniela from behind. "It’s been great so far. I’m glad Daniela is showing me around, she’s helped me a lot," Carlos smiled. Louis overheard him and his eyebrow twitched. Daniela stopped walking. Louis looked down at Daniela, "What is it?" She looked up at him, "This is where the girls’ locker room is." He looked to his left. Girls were rushing inside the room. The bell rung. "Yes of course," Louis removed his arm from Daniela and patted Carlos’ shoulder. May and Daniela rushed into the girls’ locker room. "Let’s go," Louis told Carlos and they walked into the boys’ locker room.
Alexia stretched her arms out and yawned as she walked out of the girls' locker room with Allison, Daniela, and May. May jumped up and down and rubbed her arms. "Damn it's cold, maybe I should've brought my sweater with me," she told Daniela. Daniela looked at her arm. "Yeah you're right," she held her arm up to May, "look, I've got goosebumps." "Well personally I don't think it's a good idea to bring a sweater. Especially since we're in our soccer unit things can get pretty feisty and hot," Allison folded her arms and sighed.
They walked to their squad lines and sat down. Then, the boys walked out of their locker room. Louis and Carlos walked out together. Louis stretched his arms. They walked up to Daniela. Louis sat in front of her while Carlos sat behind her. "Are those Louis' gym shorts?" Daniela asked Carlos when he settled down. He looked down at his lap.
"Oh yeah, Louis lent me them since I didn't bring any," Carlos explained to her. Louis sighed, "Yep but it's only for today." Daniela smiled and scooched over to Louis. She wrapped her arms around his arm. "That's nice of you to do," Daniela looked up into his eyes. Louis blushed and shrugged, "Well it's nothing much." Daniela leaned over and whispered in his ear, "I'm really happy that you're helping him, I appreciate it."
Louis looked over at Frank. Frank looked back at Louis. Louis mouthed out two words. BROWNIE POINTS. Frank smirked and nodded.
"Okay guys! We're starting our soccer tournament today so we should make our teams right away!" announced the gym teacher, Mr. Riley. Everyone stood up. "Everyone on this line!" Mr. Riley pointed to the black line that was in front of him. People lined up all along the black line. After everyone was settled on the line, Mr. Riley stood in front and walked around looking for team captains. "Rick come up you’re a team captain and Allison come up you’re a team captain as well." Mr. Riley told Rick and Allison. They both got up and stood in front the line of people with the gym teacher.
Mr. Riley smiled and sighed, "Alright, ladies first, Allison pick a boy." Allison looked across the line of people carefully. She bit her lip and pointed at someone, "Aaron." Aaron got up and walked over to Allison. "Rick, pick a girl," Mr. Riley told Rick. "Ocean," Rick said immediately. Ocean stood up and stood next to Rick. "Daniela," Allison said. Daniela smiled and walked over to Allison. "Louis," Rick said looking at Allison.
"Zane," Allison told Rick.
"Paula," Rick eyed Allison.
"Alexia."
"Frank."
"Prim."
Frank excitedly ran over to Rick’s team and high-fived Louis. "Yes man, we got this!" he told Louis and ruffled his hair. Alexia, May and Daniela shrieked together. "Yay! We’re all on the same team!" Daniela laughed. Allison and Rick continued until Carlos, Nate, Keira and Kate were left.
Daniela leaned over and whispered in Allison’s ear. "Get Keira and Carlos," she told her. "Are you sure about Carlos? We don’t know if he’s good," Allison whispered back to Daniela. Daniela sighed, "That’s why we should pick him, you never know, he might be a boss at this sport." "Kate," Rick pointed at Kate as she sat in boredom. "Keira," Allison then said. Rick thought for a moment, "Hmm, I’ll choose, Nate." Daniela smiled. "Carlos!" Daniela called out to him and waved. Louis and Frank watched as Carlos quickly stood up and rush over to Daniela. Louis smirked, "This makes the competition much more interesting. Frank patted Louis on the back, "Just keep your cool, alright?" Louis nodded and waved to Daniela. Daniela noticed and happily waved back.
"Now Allison's team, you're red and Rick's team, you're blue," Mr. Riley told them. "The right side of the gym is yours," He looked at Allison, "and the left is yours," he looked at Rick. Allison and Rick nodded. "Alright let's get this match started!" Mr. Riley held up his clipboard.
