“From this story one learns that children, especially young lasses, do very wrong to listen to strangers. Alas! Who does not know that these wolves are of all such creatures the most dangerous!”

Today we’re more familiar with the Brothers Grimm version of this tale, where a girl and her grandmother are gobbled up by a wolf, but rescued by a huntsman. In Charles Perrault’s original, there is no happy ending. And the wolf represents a sexual predator. In those days, a girl who lost her virginity was said to have “seen the wolf” and Perrault makes his moral explicit at the end

Btw if you're interested there is a gruesome background to The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Pinocchio, Snow White, Aladdin and the King of Thieves, Hercules, Pocahontas, Alice and Wonderland, Peter Pan, The Princess and the Frog, and The Lion King. (dang there's a lot)

Yeah most fairy tales were really sexual and he Grimm brothers took out that stuff and made it more gruesome and have more violence. Why do we let out children know these stories

OMG! Yeah, I did a little project on original fairytales vs. the disney movies for school and I've heard about these! Cinderella was just wayyyyyy to gross!!! I couln't read anymore! :-&

I heard a version for red riding hood when the wolf cooks her grandmother and tells her the flesh is stake the teeth are rice and the blood is red wine.
