Is it ok for an 11 year old girl to be vegetarian?

READ: I'm an 11 year old girl and I love animals and I really don't want to eat them. I don't find meat very appetising and when I look at a burger all I see is a piece of a dead cow. I hate the thought of killing animals- I don't even kill spiders, if I see one in the house I catch it in a cup or something and put it back outside instead of stepping on it. I didn't eat any of my chicken at dinner today and my mum went on about how I needed the meat for protein and stuff. Plus i would survive as a vegetarian as i tried some of that vegetarian meat stuff and i liked it. I still don't know if it is alright to be one. Is it ok for me to be a vegetarian at such a young age or do I need to be older? Also could you tell me some vegetarian food that is nice? Thanks! (By the way when I eat meat I'm like Lisa here.)

It's actually very grown-up of you to become a vegetarian.
And vegetarians have less of a chance of getting heart attacks, so becoming one at a younger age could help you live longer.

I am a veggie. You can get protein from beans, lentils, tofu, the weird veggie meat stuff ( I don't like it) peanut butter, nuts and protein powder. I have been a vegitarian my whole life And I don't know why I'd stop. Here's one tip, only use dairy for protein for one meal a day.
Good luck!!

I am 11, and I'm a vegetarian. I started when I was ten because I saw the movie Food Inc. My mother is a vegan and she has been for three years. I think it's perfectly fine.

I take that into my resolve to never eat meat (and I don't already) and to never watch that movie so I don't drown every one in my tears. Also one time at a wedding they were roasting a pig they had just killed, my familly had to leave early, me and my twin were crying too hard.

It's a movie that really shows exactly how meat is processed and produced. Less than halfway through, I was in tears. They showed chickens being injected with hormones to make them fatter. They showed the chickens falling over, unable to walk. They showed chickens being killed.

I don't see what's wrong with it, some people are born into vegetarian families and live by the same lifestyle by the time they can eat solid food. It's completely normal, besides, there are plenty of other sources for protein than just meat.

Only thing about being vegetarian is it's hard to get protein into the diet so maybe try when you're older so you have all the nutrients you need I say 15+ just because your young but don't let me stop you ok you are you and no one can change that

You could definitely survive on a vegetarian diet! I started when I was 12 and I've never had any health problems. You don't need meat to get all your protein. A lot of people get 3x the protein they need from eating meat. It's a myth that you don't get enough protein on a vegetarian diet. Lots of plants have plenty of protein. Make sure you eat a balanced diet though, and that you get enough calories as it's easy to not get enough on a vegetarian diet. Watch out for vitamins See More▼

Well it is okay but be sure that is what u want. Being a vegitarian is a big choice in life and it can be unhealthy IF you dont have the right amount of protein and other things. But go for it if you are really passionate about it just remember that it is a big choice.
