Is it ok for an 11 year old girl to be vegetarian?

READ: I'm an 11 year old girl and I love animals and I really don't want to eat them. I don't find meat very appetising and when I look at a burger all I see is a piece of a dead cow. I hate the thought of killing animals- I don't even kill spiders, if I see one in the house I catch it in a cup or something and put it back outside instead of stepping on it. I didn't eat any of my chicken at dinner today and my mum went on about how I needed the meat for protein and stuff. Plus i would survive as a vegetarian as i tried some of that vegetarian meat stuff and i liked it. I still don't know if it is alright to be one. Is it ok for me to be a vegetarian at such a young age or do I need to be older? Also could you tell me some vegetarian food that is nice? Thanks! (By the way when I eat meat I'm like Lisa here.)

It's actually very grown-up of you to become a vegetarian.
And vegetarians have less of a chance of getting heart attacks, so becoming one at a younger age could help you live longer.

True, even if they do, which they might, they're definatly less aware of what's happening to them thats a pig or cow.

You could definitely survive on a vegetarian diet! I started when I was 12 and I've never had any health problems. You don't need meat to get all your protein. A lot of people get 3x the protein they need from eating meat. It's a myth that you don't get enough protein on a vegetarian diet. Lots of plants have plenty of protein. Make sure you eat a balanced diet though, and that you get enough calories as it's easy to not get enough on a vegetarian diet. Watch out for vitamins See More▼

Well it is okay but be sure that is what u want. Being a vegitarian is a big choice in life and it can be unhealthy IF you dont have the right amount of protein and other things. But go for it if you are really passionate about it just remember that it is a big choice.

It's totally okay to be a vegetarian when you're 11. If you really love animals and don't want to eat them, you don't have to. And there are a lot of things that can substitute the protein you get from meat so there is absolutely no reason for that to be a problem. It's your life and your choice. No one else can tell you what to do and if anyone tries to tell you not to be vegetarian, you need to tell them that people have different opinions and just because your's is different See More▼

It's so sweet of you that you love animals so much and yes,you need protien. That means you need meat. Not that you need every kind of meat.Fish will be more than enough.if you don't want to eat fish, you will have to eat healthy food.I'm a buddism and I hope to be one after 20.For now it's important.

Have you tried organic vs non organic, it really changes the taste, for example, orang inc carrots taste richer than non organic and non organic celary isn't as bitter as the organic ones. Also you don't have to have them raw, you can have them steamed, fried, cooked, with sauce, there's many ways on how to prepare them.

I am a veggie. You can get protein from beans, lentils, tofu, the weird veggie meat stuff ( I don't like it) peanut butter, nuts and protein powder. I have been a vegitarian my whole life And I don't know why I'd stop. Here's one tip, only use dairy for protein for one meal a day.
Good luck!!

It's a movie that really shows exactly how meat is processed and produced. Less than halfway through, I was in tears. They showed chickens being injected with hormones to make them fatter. They showed the chickens falling over, unable to walk. They showed chickens being killed.
