Kung fu is different than karate. Karate is used for defense and kung fu have different belts and stuff than karate so...

Their not the same... Different moves - different belts- different skills-
How do I know ??
My friend takes KUNG-FU and has different color belts then me ( who takes karate).
Also in KUNG-FU their is more belts but you advance a little faster then in karate.
