Background: His father walked out on his mother when she turned up pregnant. When he was born, his mother died giving birth. He was put in an orphanage and they discovered he was deaf. They taught him sign language and soon enough, he learned how to read lips. The orphanage tried to pressure him into talking but he knew he couldn't pronounce things properly. He didn't want to talk because he was embarrassed so he is mute. He was never adopted due to his disability. He enjoyed reading as a child, and knew he wanted to work with books when he grew up. So, he became a librarian naturally and continues to work there today.

Personality: Kind, Warm-hearted, generous, calm, gentle etc.
Background: He was raised an only child by his mother and father. He never bonded well with his father, he was always with his mother. His father wanted him to follow lead and become a soldier like him but Hideki didn't want that life. He wanted to explore and be free, not to be contained. His mother encouraged this form of life style and wanted only for her son to be happy. His father died, protecting the tribe against an attack from the fire nation. His sword was passed onto Hideki, and it is the only thing he has left of his father now. His mother starved herself in her grief and soon died of malnutrition as Hideki watched her slowly die unable to help her. He decided he couldn't stay there anymore, and is on his way to explore the world.

Extra: His mother gave him an ancient wooden flute that had been passed down for generations. He taught himself how to play it and every now and again, when funds are low, uses it to get out of a tight pinch.
