The Lollipop was first "invented" by the ancient Chinese, Arabs, and Egyptians. They made fruit and nut sweets that they "candied" in honey and, what do ya know, they put it on a stick. Later, in the Civil War Era, hard candy was put on the tips of pencils for schoolchildren. When sugar became more plentiful in the 17th century, the English made boiled sugar candy treats on sticks. Lolly pop, the original term for a lollipop, actually means "tongue slap" in England.
