Shifting hearts (fanfic story)

Making best friends

Carmen watched the boy smiling as he felt loved from all the attention when she locked eyes with an older man in green and tilted her head curiously. She noticed how tense he seemed like someone was putting pressure on him and it made her feel....sympathy for him.

The man blinked at her and shrugged before returning his attention to his nephew. Carmen was curious about him but wanted to stay hidden, she felt like she shouldn't be here when she felt a tap on her shoulder causing her to jump and look behind her. She saw a girl the same age as her slightly smile at her.

"Hello I'm mirabel!" The girl said and carmen stuttered a bit being shy. "I-i-im carmen..." She shyly smiled and shook hands with mirabel.carmen looked at camilo "who's he?" She asked and mirabel looked at camilo who shifted into another person "oh that's my cousin camilo! He's super cool" mirabel smiled and looked at carmen. "Why do you like him?" She smirked and carmen blushed.

"N-n-no i dont e-even know him how could i like him?" Carmen tried defending herself which made mirabel giggle. "I'll be getting my gift soon" she said causing carmen to tilt her head. "C-can i be honest with you mirabel?" Carmen asked and mirabel nodded. "I... Have a strange feeling that you won't get a gift... But don't be ashamed of it... I also have a feeling that you not getting a gift is part of something big.... you'll get a better role than having a gift" carmen said and mirabel slightly smiled. "T-thx carmen but I'm sure I'll get a gift and even if I don't I'll always remember what you said". The two hugged and mirabel said bye before skipping off.

A couple weeks later, mirabel was gonna get her gift and carmen watched nervously but then her eyes flickered to bruno who started becoming nervous and watched as his niece touched the door but the door faded away. Mirabel was disappointed but remembered what her new friend said and tried not to look so sad while everyone else was shocked. Bruno ran to his room and carmen was curious so she turned into a white little rat as to not be seen.

When she snuck into Bruno's room, she saw the long stairs and bruno running up them. Her jaw dropped "there's no way I'm climbing all the way up that!" She quickly turned into a white toucan and flew across just as bruno reached the top out of breath. Carmen tried to stay hidden but bruno caught her and was shocked "what's a toucan doing in my room?" He asked which made carmen smile nervously and turn back to normal.

Bruno jumped back shocked by what he just saw but shrugged it off. "So uhh who's kid are you?... I don't remember anyone else having another kid..." He asked and carmen tensed up "umm I'm not part of this family... I umm I don't know who my parents are actually.... They abandoned me when i was just born... My gift was given to me by a spirit and i was raised by a woman in town" carmen explained. "Ah makes sense" bruno replied as he started his little ritual and carmen watched tilting her head curiously.

Bruno gasped seeing an older mirabel in front of a broken casita and that vision became an emerald stone and he looked at it horrified. "I-i-i can't tell anyone this..m i cant tell mama this..." He said and carmen tilted her head, looking at the stone which shocked her. "I have to get out of here.... Mama is already upset that mirabel didn't get a gift... I-if she finds out about this..." Bruno didn't wanna continue and carmen understood and hugged bruno which shocked him. "Btw I'm carmen" she smiled "im... Bruno" he replied with a small smile.

Carmen helped bruno to escape into the walls and alma thought bruno left because of mirabel. Everyday after that, carmen kept sneaking into the walls of casita as a rat and seeing bruno ,becoming his best friend and his favorite rat who just so happened to be good at acting for him when he was tired and wanted to watch something.
