Paused in Time

All Is Not What It Seems

Darkness surrounded you, what was going on? Last thing you remember was hanging out with Drew and now this? The content ticking of a clock in the abyss was starting to get annoying. Trying to block out the ticking or distract yourself from it at the least you call out.
“Hello?” You yell into the darkness. The ticking gets louder and louder until you no longer can hear yourself think. A loud blood curdling scream echoes around making you jump backwards in fear. The scream was an all too familiar voice, your own. The ticking ceases. A high pitched unfamiliar giggle is heard, yet it’s defiantly a male’s voice. You don’t recognise it though. It starts to hum a tune.
“Tick tock goes the clock, you have plenty of time to spend” The voice sounds as if it’s whispering into your ear from behind. You spin around on your toes but are only met with black dullness.
“Tick tock goes the clock, but what will you do when it ends?” The voice giggles once again.

You shoot up from your bed panting and clutching the blankets to your chest for comfort. What was that about?

“And then I woke up!” You announce giggling at the events you had the night before. You and Drew had become best friends and the two of you are contently telling each other stories and jokes.
“Strange dream __” He mutters drumming his fingers on the table. You see a bead of sweat drip down his forehead.
“You alright?” You ask shuffling closer to your friend. His eyes are focused onto the TV in your room though.
“Hm? Yeah, yep, fine, great” He answers his eyes still glued to the television. Following his stare you watch the TV also.

“BREAKING NEWS! Local inmate in prison has escaped claiming he is going to find the ‘chosen one’. The prison inmates name is Casper Freely who was originally arrested due to an anonymous call accusing his to be insane. Taking him in to trial his accusation was proven correct as all he talked about was ‘time is only an illusion’ before yelling out hysterically how ‘Lord Lilith will save him’. Whoever if female is, if real, obviously didn’t. He escaped yesterday at 3:37am was claimed to be muttering about revenge. If you’re near the area of __, please stay indoors and lock doors and windows until police have handled this situation, good afternoon and goodbye”

“Well, damn” You mutter scratching your head. You expect a comeback of sorts from Drew, a reply, a nod at least but instead he turns his back to you and heads up the stairs to your room. Raising an eyebrow you follow him. He digs threw your stuff until he finds a suitcase.
“Here” he says throwing it onto your bed. “Pack your stuff, don’t forget the necklace!”
“Why?” You ask gripping the silver locket around your neck. “Drew, what’s wrong?”
“He’s after you”
“Who is?”
“Casper!”
“The escaped guy?” Drew hums in response busy with helping you pack your suitcase. You turn your back to his to fold your clothes into your case.
“Why would he be after me?”
“Because of your mum”
“Excuse me?”
“She gave you that necklace”
“And?”
“And that’s why he’s after you!”
“Why would an insane person be after me for my necklace, Drew?” Your turn back around and cross your arms over your chest. If this is another strange prank then you were going to be mad. But Drew just sighs still with his back to you. He stuffs his hands in his pockets and stands up straight.
“Because that’s no ordinary necklace __” Drew turns around. His eyes are pure white, with no iris or pupils.
“And he is no ordinary person”
