Chapter 2

Kyra sat on the edge of her bed, listening to the crickets chirp from outside the open window. She flipped through a old book, her scribbly handwriting on every page. Kyra sighed and stood up, setting her book on the small shelf built into the wall. A few crickets flew onto the window sill looking at her. She saw them out of the corner of her eye and slowly walked over to them. They jumped off and Kyra leaned over the windowsill , soft moonlight shone down on the land and houses around them. Kya looked at her clock, it said 10:34.

Kyra closed her window and pulled a backpack from a pile of stuff. She opened her door, looking out her doorway and seeing her parents asleep she turned her light off. Sneaking into the kitchen she grabbed a apple and a bottle of water stuffing them into her backpack. Grabbing a jacket she slowly inched her way to the door. Opening it carefully she stepped outside.

Wind howled through the woods and houses. The moon shone down giving a soft glow to everything. Kyra Shouldered her backpack and started to walk towards the forest behind their house. She pushed through a few bushes and climbed over the old fence. Landing on a slippery patch of grass she had to steady herself so she wouldn't fall over.

She cautiously entered the forest, climbing the biggest tree she could find she took her backpack off and pulled the apple out. She bit into it, watching the trees dance in the wind around her. Suddenly a giant black spider fell onto her apple. It stared at her with big red eyes.
