Skinny.

Skinny.

All Melanie wanted was to fit in. She was always that one girl who never seemed to click with any group of friends. She saw all of those popular girls, who were skinny and pretty. That's what she wanted. Her one best friend already seemed to be transforming into a popular kid, and she was being left by herself. Being self conscious as she was, she took this as she wasn't good enough. Her tiny shreds of self esteem were quickly fading away, and she was faced with one thought: skinny. *Author's note: Don't starve yourself! Don't purge! Eat normal! Chapter 3.

I walk to school now. Just another way to burn off calories.
I walk into the parking lot, and I see Callie. She's looking straight at me as I walk up to the door.
"Mel?" She taps my shoulder.
I turn around in surprise.
"Yeah?"
"We need to talk, now." She grabs my bony wrist and drags me toward the abandoned bathroom on the 3rd hall from the door.
"What?" I demand, after she locks the entrance to the bathroom.
"What's happening to you?" she asks, her voice filled with concern and worry.
"Like you even care!" I say loudly. "When were you ever there for me?! You left ME, remember? I don't owe you an explanation for ANYTHING. It's not the Mel and Callie show anymore. That went out the door in eighth grade, because APPARENTLY better things came along."
I wasn't done there. I've been wanting to say these things for a very, very long time.
"Callie, I don't care if you're worried about me. There's nothing wrong with me! I don't even know why the hell you would even say that! Just leave me the hell alone, or you'll regret it," I say, unlocking the door and walking quickly away.
Good job, Ana says. She was a distraction. Nobody can stop you now.

In the locker room, girls stare at me. They whisper in little groups. I hear words floating around. Skinny, bony, anorexic. But all those words do is please Ana, and please me.
Kathrine Denmark, head cheerleader and super popular girl, waved at me in dodge ball. AT ME.
No, Ana says. No time for them.
My stomach growls throughout the day.

In 6th period, I feel someone tap my shoulder. I look to my right and a super cute boy named Luke is looking at me.
"Umm, yeah?" I ask.
"You're name is Megan, right?" He flips his blonde hair out of his eyes.
"Uhh... It's Meg, I mean, Mel. Melanie, but, umm, I go by Mel." I basically trip over my words.
"Oh, cool. Well, I just wanted to say hi..." His cheeks turn red. "I think you're pretty cute..."
See, Ana says. You're getting there, but you're still ugly.
