Chapter 4: Grana’s House L
After about two days of rest in the hospital my nana came and took me to her house. She was crying and talking bad about my mom the whole drive home. Distressed, I yelled out “Grandma! You weren’t even THERE! It wasn’t my mother’s fault they died and you know it! They’re just gone ok! It was their time to go!” I said, sobbing.  Grana looked absolutely flabbergasted that I had the nerve to say something so cruel to her. I had always put up with her put-downs with sealed lips and a straight face. Sure she made it extremely hard and frustrating; but I loved and appreciated her like a model granddaughter should. Regaining composure; I apologized in the silence.
“No, Scarlett, it is I who should be apologizing. I understand how hard this must be for you and I’m doing nothing but increasing that burden. In your own way, a very disrespectful one I might add, you have made me see that I was a bit harsh to you growing up all because I don’t like your mother’s family. I still stand by my hatred over your mother; but I’m willing to stop my immature behavior towards you and start, as you youngsters say today, ‘fresh’?”
Happy for the change in how grana treated me, I gladly accepted. It was quiet on the ride home and I was completely fine considering I didn’t even feel like making conversation nor did grana.
“I will be needing your cellular device, miniscule speakers, and compacted computer NOW!”(Translation: cell phone, head phones, and laptop), Grana demanded of me as soon as we set foot in the house. Wow! So much for starting “fresh”
“WHAT?!” I cried, not being able to believe how ridiculous gran was being.
“Scarlett; DO NOT yell or question me! I will have NONE of your disrespect. Your trashy mother may have tolerated your use of ill words and such but I will not. I will not have you getting distracted from school work by using those fancy gadgets. After handing me your gadgets you will take a shower and wear the new clothes I bought you. DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR?!”
“YES SIR!” I said and scurried off.

OMG!!!!! The new clothes grana got for me are absolutely DREADFUL! She must have purchased these from the “You’re Still Alive?!’ department! What’s worse is that it’s all I have to wear because she threw out all my other clothes except my prom outfit! This is an emergency! I absolutely REFUSE to wear those awful canary yellow baggy dresses! Or walk around looking like Cinderella! But I have to wear something. So I slip on my prom dress and I walk over to the computer. Looks like I’ll have to IM my friends for some clothes. Hopefully they’ll understand.

ScarlettRulez: Brit, omg my crazy grandma just took my phone, iPod, and threw all my clothes out and bought some old lady dresses! This is a fashion EMERGENCY!!! Please respond and help! Thanks!
BritneyisBeautiful: OMG! It’s bad enough that your family is gone! I’ll have some clothes for you Monday. I’ll have to buy some new ones because we’re not the same size tho :/  btw Did you get the flowers I sent over? I’m so sorry.

“If you don’t like the clothes I bought you, you could’ve told me nicely. You should be grateful I went out shopping for you. John would’ve liked things I bought for him; as so Todd. You get that ungratefulness from your insufferable mother” grana spat at me, almost making me poop out a brick.
“Grana, I’m not being ungrateful, it’s just that I’m not a child anymore. I want to wear something more in my age range. I’ll look more professional. I really appreciate what you’re doing” I said to grana; meaning none of it. Well, only partly.
“BULLCRAP,” grana spat, not buying any of what I said. “But if you want to go around looking and acting like white trash just like your mother, go right on ahead! I won’t stop you! Your eighteenth birthday is in three days and then I’ll be rid of you! OR BETTER: YOU CAN LEAVE NOW! GO! GO LIVE AT YOUR FRIENDS HOUSE AND PROVIDE FOR YOURSELF! I JUST LOST MY ONLY SON, MY PRIDE AND JOY, AND I HAVE NO TIME TO PUT UP WITH YOUR FOOLISHNESS! NOW TAKE YOUR CELLULAR DEVICE- ALL OF THAT- AND GO!” Grana yelled out with tears in her eyes, surprising me.
“FINE”, I spat back. “I’LL GO! IT’S NOT LIKE YOU EVER CARED FOR ME ANYWAY. ALL THOSE THINGS I DID, I DID FOR YOU SO YOU CAN LOVE ME LIKE YOUR SON. BUT ALL YOU’VE EVER FRICKEN BEEN WAS RUDE AND A – COMPLETE B!#CH! So fine; I’ll go. You’ll be out of my life forever-not that you were EVER IN IT.” I can’t believe I said those things but it had to be done. I had to express my feelings. Grana is wearing an expression of complete shock as her tears fall. But I can’t take them back. I take my phone and my other things from out her room and walk outside to my car.
