First Day

First Day
I hop out of the car and say goodbye to Mum. I walk along, hoping to get to my class room quickly.
Suddenly a shadow falls over me.
"Well, well, well. Look, girls, it's a new kid!" the girl talking has long black hair. She has two accompanying girls with her.
"Hi guys! I'm Kara!" I chirp.
Big. Mistake.
The girl laughs scornfully. "Girls, let's show 'Kara' what happens to new people here."
They advance on me. I back away.
"OMG! LOOK!" a girl on the right gasps. "Her eyes! Th-their changing color!"
I cringe.
"Now they're green instead of brown!"
They always turn green when I feel intimidated.
"So, the little BABY lives in the CIRCUS! As a FREAK ATTRATION!" the other girl sneered. "Let's show 'er what we do with the REJECTS!"
"HEY!" a voice yells. "Leona! Step away from her!"
"It's Sage!" she hisses. "RUN!"
I watch as they dash away, and turn my attention to the girl coming towards me. She has black hair with red highlights in piggy tails and a scar across her left eye. I shiver. She looks all goth-like.
"Um...hi." I smile nervously.
"Oh, cut the crap. I know your afraid 'o me an' all that, everyone is." she sighs. I bits my lip. I hadn't meant to imply that.
"Oh.. sorry." I say awkwardly. "By the way... why are those girls so scared of you?"
"Because they all think I'm a messed up weirdo who spends her time thinking of death." the girl says.
"Do you?"
Oops... I hadn't meant it like that.
"No! Of course not!" she glares at me. Then she sighs again. "Listen, sorry about that. But it's not always easy for me."
"Hey..." I smile at her. "It's okay. I'm...I'm not that normal either."
"What do you mean?"
"Here," I say, "punch me."
"What?"
"Do it. Punch me hard, in the arm."
The girl hesitates. Finally, she gives a weak punch.
"Come on! Harder!"
She punches harder. Way harder.
"Ow!"
"Oh! Sorry!" she frowns.
"No, it's okay... but look!" I point to my eyes. The girl gasps. "Whoa! They're changing color!"
"Yeah, I know..."
"That is so COOL!!!"
"Cool?" I smile. "all the other kids think it's freaky and messed up."
"Well they're WRONG!"
I grin. "I'm Kara."
"I'm Sage."
RRRREEEEEEEOOOOOOOWWWWW!!
"That was the siren." Sage says. "Come on, school's started!"
I follow her happily to our class.

I think the author did a great job showing how being the “odd one out” can be painful but also meaningful for personal growth. It reminds me that everyone has their own unique value, just like how creativity can be expressed in many ways, even through simple things like dibujos para colorear ( https://colorearm.com ). Overall, this chapter made me reflect on See More
