The Two Sides
Chapter 2.

The First Day In Forever

"And that's not for a LOOONG time." Alison added the LLLOOONNNGGG for effect. I dipped my spoon in my oatmeal and pushed it into my mouth. It tasted bland. I gulped. "We're fourteen," Melanie, my twin sister, chirped. "We're close enough." Alison, my older sister, said, "Ok, just please choose this side." "We will, we will," Melanie said, rolling her eyes. "We won't," I whispered. "What's that, Amelia?" "Nothing, nothing." You see, each state on Earth is divided into side Blue and side Red. On my birthday I will choose my side, but I have no idea which side I will choose. It's a mystery. No, I'm kidding. I'm not staying. I'm going to side Red to be with my grandpa. Long story short, a bit of a fishing incident happened. Luckily, we were aloud to visit him every August. In a hot June 2nd, My birthday August 1rst, I was staying with him permanently. "Are you changed?" My mom came into the room and set down a steaming mug of coffee. She turned to her waffle in front of her and turned to me.
I nodded sheepishly. Well, you could call my outfit weather appropriate. My blouse was a kind of maroon color, and my jeans draped down to my ankles, where my socks began and then stopped at my sneakers. A blue scarf was tied around my neck, which held a golden locker my mom had gave me for my birthday. My mom rolled my eyes and I changed into a purple tank top and tight shorts, and changed into sneakers that were more comfortable. I brushed my teeth quickly, and my cheek brushed on the cedar as I exited the house, and the floral wallpaper was replaced with blue all across, and tiny fluffs of white for clouds. The sun was at the edge of the sky, a bright golden glow, and rays of the light spiraled into the morning sky. The air, though, wasn't as tranquil as i'd expected, but it settled down as we went down the stairs. Alison had blonde locks that were flawless, even in the morning, but her hair this time was tied into a ponytail with a tight rubber band that glowed neon pink, and grinned when a text popped up on her little Blackberry's screen. "Can't wait to go to college", it read. "Me too, Sarah, can't wait for June eleventh," giggled Alison. I rolled my eyes and walked out of the car, into the broad daylight spilling into the grassy clearing before me. I stepped onto the marble floors of the building and walked to homeroom.
