Chapter 2.
Ready For Orders, Sir

Ready For Orders, Sir

The black uniform hugged tight of my slim, muscular body as the golden buttons shined in the light. Frankly, I did not understand why if we were fighting a war that we had to wear these ridiculous suits. If I am going to die, I want to die in something comfortable not in this uniform. My blood will more than likely ruin this uniform.

Walking out of my room, I saw Naomi smiling at me with her bright shiny blue eyes. Her white uniform top made her eyes shine brighter than before, or maybe it was because I just had a dream of her death that her eyes looked pretty. Sitting on her shoulder, Kiki smiled at me. "Let's get going before Daddy gets even more infuriated that we are even more late." Naomi ordered grabbing my wrist and dragging me down the hallway.

"Calm down, Nao, and stop dragging me!" I yelled at her as I pulled away from her grip. Wrapping my hand around my wrist, I could still feel those rope like creatures holding me tight in midair. I am still surprised of how much of a dream that truly was.

"Not my fault you slept in! You always do that!" Naomi barked at me again. I swear nothing I do is right. I am a sixteen year old boy. Of course, I like to sleep in. She should understand that us teenagers like to sleep up. Why does she try to act so mature?

"Just chill. Relax a little. Stop taking everything so seriously." I mentioned at her wrapping my arm around her small shoulders. After what happened six years ago, I do not blame her for taking things seriously. But still, she was just ten. Naomi did not know the danger of the outside world then. Sadly, her mother paid the price for Naomi's childish act.

Sighing ever so lightly, Naomi smiled at me and said, "Relaxing is not my specialty, but I will stop scolding you." A smile curved on my face as I realized her shoulders started relaxing.

"That's my girl. Now, why does your dad want to see us? I have not messed with you recently." I chuckled as Kiki set on top of Naomi's head. I never knew why Naomi fell in love with Kiki or where Kiki came from. Kiki appeared at her house after Naomi's mother passed away. I guess a rare animal made Naomi forget even for a little bit.

Pinching my chest, Naomi laughed at me as her face started glowing red. Pulling my arm away from her shoulders, she said, "He just said he has something for us." With her dad that either means a twenty mile run or something really good. I am going to vote good since I did enough running in that nightmare I had.

"Why does your dad have to see us? Why can he not send it to us like everyone else?" I complained shoving my hands in my pockets.

Standing at the door, I was about to walk in until Naomi grabbed my shoulders and started fixing my hair. As she combed my black long hair back, she answered, "Well, this is what you get for forming a team with the commander's only daughter." She was not look at me, but I could tell by the way she talked her tone was sad. No one wanted to be her partner but me.

Smiling at her, I looked her straight in her blue eyes and said, "Yes, and I would not change a thing." A smile covered on her face as I opened the door. Opening the door, I saw a man with beach blonde short hair sitting behind his desk. His black uniform hugged correct and tight on his tan skin. Rubbing his hand on his beard, Commander Derek glared at us with his hazel eyes.

"Calix, I am guessing by the look in your eyes that you slept in." The Commander smirked at me still running his beard. For some reason, the Commander did an excellent job at indicating people. I mean I am not a hard person to read. I like food, sleep, and fighting.

Rubbing my hand through my black hair, I confirmed his suspension saying, "Yeah. Yeah. Nao has already beat you to the punch, sir."

Punching me in the shoulder, Naomi stared at me in annoyance. I guess she did not like what I had said. Normally, Naomi does not like what I say any way. With all the bruises on my body, people would think I am a bad fighter. Nope, I just do not want to punch my female partner. "I am sorry for Calix being an idiot!" Naomi roared starring at me evilly. Grabbing Kiki off of her head, Kiki and I walked a few feet away from Naomi.

Commander started laughing at our child like attitudes towards each other as he tried saying, "You two kids crack me up."

Petting Kiki, I continued by mentioning, "Yes. Two complete opposites normally crack people up."

"Yes. You have a point, but both are great on the battle field." The Commander commented. He had a good point. Naomi and I were in sink when it came to fighting. As a team, we are the top in our class, but apart, she has book smarts and medical information while I had strength and weapon technique.

I was surprised the old man did not acknowledge his daughter much; however, the surprise was not unknown to me. She made him promise not to spoil her because she is his daughter.

Shaking my head, I agreed to what he said as Naomi's face started to turn a slight pink color. Looking at Kiki, her tongue was not sticking out, so I knew it was not hot in here. But, I never felt hot anyway. My body temperature always seemed to stay freezing. "So, what did you need us for sure?" Naomi asked. Naomi always wanted to get to the point of things. She never likes just simple small talk.

Like a light bulb flickered over his head, the Commander snapped his fingers and said, "Oh, yes. Now listen carefully, I will only say it once. In two days, the two of you are going on an undercover mission. A main group will be attacking the enemy at Old Ridge Bottom; however, that is only a distraction. The two of you will sneak behind the rocks and go into the Sacrificial Cave. According to radars, unusual activity is going on."

In two days, huh? I could hear the words of the woman talking about my decision in two days. Could this be it? Smirking, I started petting Kiki's tails as I commented, "And why are you sending two teenagers on this mission?" I had a good reason to ask. He has qualified agents for this mission.

Naomi glared at me with the look like shut the heck up and do not question it. I had to agree with her look. A mission seemed exciting! We just finished boot camp a couple of weeks ago and have not been out on the battle field. "Actually, I thought it would be a great first mission." The Commander continued smiling at us.

"Fine you got me there, but what kind of activity is this?" I had no intention in going into a mission I had no idea of. On top of that, the lady in the dream said I had a decision to make that day. The cave might be what I need to do.

The Commander shrugged his shoulders as he said, "Well, the radars identify any strange activity like enemy movement. This might just be a fluke if anything."

"And that is a good reason to attack?" I continued talking. None of this made sense to me. Why are we attacking if there is no reason to? Food is starting to get low, and the population is decreasing every day. A random attack is not the best idea.

"We need to get the farming land the enemy controls. The attack was planned a week ago, but the cave started strange activity three days ago and is still doing it." The Commander answered.

I wanted to continue asking questions. I had so much more, but then I heard Naomi say cheerfully,"We will be happy to do it, sir! Thank you!" Naomi smiled at her father. I think she is more happy to be going on the mission than I am. I guess she wants revenge that bad. Still, only the people who have been in battle know the enemy, and for some reason they are not aloud to talk about the enemy.

"Great to hear. You will meet the main unit at six o' clock in the morning two days from now. For today, you can continue normal chores. Tomorrow, you two will go talk to Richard about what you will need to fight the enemy." The Commander ordered. With our 'yes sirs', we walked out of the room.

Naomi went on and on about how excited she was about actually going on a mission. A mission sounded so exciting, but I still had that woman's voice in my head.

'In two days, a decision will come up that will change your life.'

Her voices echoed through my mind as I felt a thud on my head. "Earth to Calix! Are you listening to me?" Naomi said. Kiki looked up at me in my arms and whimpered a bit.

"My bad, Nao. I was lost in thought." I added as Kiki jumped on Naomi's shoulder.

"Well, the mission is going to be so exciting! Our first mission together! I wonder what kind of gear we will get." Naomi's eyes glistened as she talked with so much excitement over the mission. I have never seen a girl so excited to murder something.

"I am going to guess the gear will be whatever it takes to kill the enemy." A smirk curved on my face after I realized the smart comment I had made.

With a hateful look, Naomi looked at me while I started to chuckle. "No way! I would not have guessed!" Naomi sarcastically said. "I heard the fighters do not use guns much though."

Shrugging my shoulders, I did not blame the no gun idea. I mean it would be my luck the gun jam on me, and I die. "Sounds good to me. A small pistol and another main weapon is fine with me." I shrugged as we walked outside the compound building.

The bright sun beamed on us with a joyful greeting as I moaned in hatred for the light in my golden eyes. The compound building was blocked out with no sun, so the sun and I are not on friend level. Naomi giggled at me. Flipping her off, I sat under one of the only trees in the area. "What do you think you are doing?" Naomi glared at me.

Opening my arms, I nicely said, "Well, my lady, I am sitting down in the grass under a single tree." Kiki ran into my arms and nuzzled against my neck. I love this little fur ball sometimes.

"But, what about the chores?" Naomi continued on.

"I am going to relax. You should join me." I informed her to sit her butt down without being mean and ordering her to do it. Moving my eye brows up and down, she finally gave in and sat beside me. "I knew you would give in."

"Shut up, idiot." She yelled at me. "I just do not want to do chores."

"No one wants to do chores." I informed her.

"The newbies like doing it for us!" Naomi mentioned to my remark.

"Yes cause they think we will give them good reviews!" I chuckled remembering all the new recruits I had do my chores.

Sitting with Naomi made me smile. Every thing had been so busy that we had not had time to just sit together. Glaring at her, my normal vision of her disappeared as I recalled her intestines dangling from her body, and her smile turned into chaotic and evil.

Closing my golden eyes, I tried forgetting that horrible image, but the thought of making the wrong decision actually scared me. No matter what in two days I have to make the right decision.

Holding Naomi's hand, I looked down at the ground not wanting to see the Nightmare Naomi. "Naomi, you know I will always protect you right?" I asked her.

I could hear the giggle in her voice as she said, "Of course, silly! We are a team. Always together." I felt my lips curl up in a smile; however, I had a feeling something terrible was about to happen to not only me.

I have to admit, it's a little gory for my taste, but I can't argue with the story. Well done.
