Chapter 3.

Rivals and Unattended Feelings

Sixteen years passed ever since Lotil had ran away from her home she at first wasn't quite use to living out by herself but at a slow pace learned how to hunt and find a good sheltered area located down a steep hill where an underground cave is hollowed out on it's side. Lotil first came upon the cave when the strength in her wings couldn't keep at speed while flying so she settled down to rest and explored the unknown territory not paying attention had tripped over a log sitting atop the hill, had she tumbled straight down landing in a bush of thick brambles breaking her fall, the hybrid slightly annoyed clumsily stepped out of the bramble bush dusting herself off took a glimpse around the place. There was a waterfall falling in one side of the hill leading straight down into a wide lake that trailed into a river, a hollow out cave with many odd looking gems located inside, large vines hanging down from a elderly but ginormous Willow tree that held many blossoms on it including a few berries; this fascinated Lotil she has been looking for some place to hide away from other Monsters as she does not wish to socialize with others unless they are someone she knows she won't allow anyone to invade this newly found paradise that is now claimed by her.
To do so, Lotil covered up certain openings of the area with thick thorny vines and giant man eating plants to protect her home from intruders if she is ever away. For those past couple days Lotil has kept this small place safe and not once has anyone discovered it feeling relaxed about it she made her home inside the cave building a wooden door to block out the cold in winter and using the gems to buy some housing supplies from near by Monsters who were selling them. It was satsifying now that Lotil could settle but even with a home of her own she still had one thing on her mind. To find a way to sneak into the Mewni castle and defeat the queen though she knew it wouldn't be easy. Later, Lotil concentrated hard on how she would succeed at this plan while practicing battle stances against a tree the hybrid felt unsatisfied with how her fighting skills are going.

Clutching her fist in complication Lotil just hit the tree a couple times letting her frustration out though still felt something lacking.
"My skills of hitting this defenseless tree is useless" she growled leaning against it "I need a real challenge, a real fighter. Question is who?" Lotil thought long and hard than shrugged "You know, doesn't matter I'll find myself a potential fighter to go up against maybe a monster at that but where will I find someone willing to battle me?"
The question sat there for a long moment before her eyes caught sight of something or someone watching. Without turning her head, Lotil held her staff close "I know you are there. It be best if you show yourself" the gleaming eyes moved from their place and traveled out from it's hiding spot.

"So you noticed me huh?" The creature spoke tilting it's head sideways Lotil looked over at the stranger moving her eyes up and down scanning them. Appearing monster like it was female, she looked cat like with a mix of hyena, blue stripes ran down her arms ending at black hands with long claws, a short black tail, long black footed legs that each resembled long socks, large blue hair atop her head and down the back, wore a purple one sleeved tank top and cut off shorts.

Standing only a few feet from Lotil, she smiles exposing a set of fangs "I overheard you saying you wanted a real challenge up against a real monster? If I heard correctly" she nods slightly smiling "Why yes I did. Are you here to challenge me?" The monster laughed "You bet you're soul I am. But first things first let me introduce myself, my name is Hickory both a hybrid cat and hyena monster where I'm from I can crunch straight through bones and scratch off flesh with one slice of my claws" Hickory bragged feeling proud.
Lotil now sparked with interest stands up boldly holding her staff over her shoulder "Well Hickory my name is Lotil. I am a hybrid of a lizard and wolf monster. I have trained for battle since I was twelve, I can bite through bones and heal instantly well not instantly only small parts of my body can regrow but whatever still I am well trained and good with dodging" Lotil grinned proudly as well though Hickory not amused yawns.
"Wow okay if you say so LoLo" Lotil immediately got triggered at the weird name addressed to her .
"Excuse me? Did you just call me LoLo?" Hickory let her red eyes look at Lotil smugly "Yeah, I did. Ya got a problem?" Lotil only huffed "Well call me that I'll nickname you Koriba!"
Now it was Hickory that was triggered, her back fur floofed up "Oh you didn't just call me what I think you just called me" Lotil made a smug look at the other hybrid "Oh you know I did, whatcha gonna do about it?" Taunting Hickory who got even more irritated.
"You want to play that game mud face? Then let's play" she hissed out a growl like sound Lotil prepared her staff gesturing for the hyena cat to her "Come at me fluffy!" Hickory leaped up at Lotil bounding with swift  movements swiping out her deadly claws at Lotil who quickly dodged the attack with the help of her wings lifting her up above the ground getting an advantage over Hickory flew around immediately trying to confuse her rival waited for an opening.

Like lightning the lizard wolf came barreling downwards from behind Hickory, using the one ended half of the spear at her back but the hyena cat intercepted Lotil's attack and instead of dodging grabbed the spear, spinned herself once, and threw Lotil and the spear into a tree creating a crack on it's side. Lotil struggled to get up rubbing her now aching head didn't notice Hickory had grabbed a hold of her neck lifting the lizard wolf up against a tree, struggling in her grasp Hickory scraped her claws across the right side of Lotil's face creating a devastating agony that felt like burning acid was dropped to the ground grinding her teeth to fight back the torment that slowly was spreading in her face.
Hickory laughed at her pain "Not sure if you knew but my claws also possess some gnarly poison in them with one hit can feel like burning acid it takes months to recover from it" looking over at Lotil again was jaw dropped to find her slowly standing up on her feet again feeling no pain anymore stunned Hickory "What how!?" Lotil took hold of her spear and laughed "Haven't I told you? I'm half lizard I have ability to heal in certain ways and a little poison doesn't infect me as much but the scars left by you don't worry they'll stay as a reminder of the day I beat you" Hickory hissed in response "We'll see about that" she charged head on Lotil standing and waiting for her to come just a bit closer, the hyena cat struck at the right wing with her claws this time barely affective on Lotil she ignored the pain and used her own staff to block against Hickory's attacks. Both fought with all their strength but started growing very exhausted after a few hours, Hickory lost concentration on her next move before Lotil took the chance to finally knock the hyena cat out cold with her own head she fell backwards utterly defeated.

Lotil wiped her sweat away breathing heavily a grin of victory on her face sat down underneath the tree catching her breath getting slightly startled at the awakening of Hickory lifting herself up with a palm to her head "Ugh...geez LoLo you have one hard head, ugh" she whined rubbing both palms on the soar forehead. Lotil laughed "Yeah, sorry about that. It was the only way to finish off the battle, you are quite the challenge Koriba" Hickory flinched at the nickname but laughed too "Thanks, you too. Wanna do this again sometime?" She offered holding a hand out to Lotil who smiled at her response took hold of Hickory's hand "Of course" they both stood up giving each looks of approval and strength shook hands, nodded to each other and went on their way until the next challenge they plan to have for now they'll both be having a break.

Lotil making her return home decided to climb above a tree believing she may be able to view the  Butterfly Castle from up there. Sinking her claws into the bark of the tree, she swiftly climbed her way up to a branch she believed could handle her weight sat down on it gently getting barely a glimpse of one of the towers.
"If only this tree were taller I could get full view to try finding ways into the area but with those other trees in the way it's difficult to see it" Lotil complained talking to herself got an idea "Maybe if I just stand up just a bit I could get a view but maybe that be a bad idea. First of all I doubt the branch could handle the weight and second of all I have wings duh! I can just fly up but my wings may only spread fully if I am in a standing position. Ugh, how am I gonna make this work?"
While Lotil was having trouble viewing the castle without snapping the branch underneath her hadn't noticed someone come her direction, a grey skinned lizard with dark purplish hair, yellow eyes, was wearing what looked like a tuxedo or suit of something had also been unaware of Lotil's presence. He had only stopped just for a bit to adjust his tie and take a few papers from his side pockets as if checking over something from the looks of one of his hands his right middle finger appeared to be missing "Let's see, if I can just get that brain whacked bird kicked out of that castle I may have the upper hand all I need to do is just wait for the right moment to do so" he mumbled to himself before noticing the sudden amount of leaves falling rather fast to the ground. The lizard monster looked up confused "What the?" He barely could make out what exactly was causing the leaves to russel in such a manner he could only tell that someone or something was up there "Hello? Is there anybody up there?" He asked his words kind of echoing a little.
Lotil being the cause of the unsettling branch moving beneath she was trying not to let the branch break and was making some very wobbly progress was startled by the sudden voice calling to her, the wolf lizard felt back just a bit on the branch awaiting for it to break under her but it remained still. "Oh geez, ugh for a minute I thought for sure this branch would break" sighing with relief Lotil looked down at the thing that shouted out at her could make out a shape of a figure below her "Oh no, why now? If I make a wrong move I'll land atop that guy. Nope not happening no-" her words ended with a sudden snap from underneath Lotil's final word ended in a scream. Trying to spread out her wings mid-fall it didn't work out as the wingspan could not spread out enough due to branches preventing any room for them so Lotil was free falling "Whyyy meeee?" She shouted her voice echoing. The grey lizard heard the snap of the branch and noticed Lotil free falling fast straight towards him, with a bit of hesitation he somewhat attempted to catch her but she had already landed right atop of him his face planted in the ground.

Lotil recovering from her fall felt the lump of something warm and scaly beneath her immediately jumped up realizing it had been the monster she saw before crashing down on him, he lifted his head up which looked to be covered up in dirt wiped off his face was seemingly annoyed at what just happened.
Lotil feeling bad for it held a hand out to the stranger "I am SO sorry for that I didn't mean to land on you. I swear! The branch broke beneath me and I was unable to stop myself, I'm really sorry."
The lizard turned his yellow gaze over to Lotil not seeming angry about what just happened, only took her hand in his she helped him up onto his feet where he dusted himself off. "It's fine, just don't get careless like that" he warned her but sounded forgiving.
Lotil nodded "Of course, I'll be sure of that next time. So tell me since you're here what's your name?" Lotil tilted her head curiously at him he slightly smiled "My name is Toffee, what's your name miss?"
Lotil went into thought Toffee? Huh, that's a pretty cool name not to mention he does look like a pretty good guy. Gah, what am I saying? Shut up Lotil and just answer his question! She shook her head to escape the thoughts and responded with a slight smile "Oh you can call me Lotil, it's nice to meet you Toffee. What a very unique name."
Toffee nodded at her "Nice to meet you're aquaintance as well Lotil and thank you. Your name is quite unique too, now I must go I have duties to attend too. Hope we meet again" waving a single goodbye Toffee had turned his back away from the smiling Lotil heading on his way, Lotil waved back "Alright than, same with you as well goodbye" she sighed a sigh she never done before. "Did that just happen to me? Oh no, I can't be feeling this way we just met, seriously? No I refuse to abide by it" Lotil stamped her paw in the ground ignoring the feeling and refusing to acknowledge it looked up too the sky with both her hands gripping her arms tightly.
"I have plans tomorrow, big plans and Moon I'm coming for you."
