Cocoa gets a Phone Call

Cocoa gets a Phone Call

The moment I got home I rushed into my mom's office. Mom's office is a cozy room stacked floor to ceiling with books. Most of them were about writing well, but some of them were novels.

As I expected, mom was sitting in her chair, sticking more tabs into a book called 'How to write a fantasy novel without overusing stereotypes' by Joanna Johnson. Next to her was a pile of books like 'Writing a bestseller,' 'The secret to Harry Potter's success,' and 'Write like Tolkien.' I tapped her on the shoulder and she jumped.

"Sorry, mom. I needed to ask you if I can go to Cocoa's house for dinner." I explained. "No, you can't. You don't know how to drive, and I am not letting you go out in the dark without the car." I sighed. "May I go?" "Yes. Let me call her. What is the number?" Mom asked. "555-817-9112" I replied. She crossed the room and got a phone.

"Beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep" sounded the phone. It barely rang once before Cocoa answered. "Senorita Memphis!" said a voice. There was a sizzle in the background. "Mrs. Memphis, my daughter Lily would like to see Cocoa-" Mom started before being cut off.

"I am Cocoa!" the voice said.

My mom stumbled back a step. "Sorry! I thought you were your mom. May I speak with her?"

"She's not here. My ma lives in Australia. So does my pa."

Mom looked surprised and thought for a second. "So, you live alone?"

"Nope!"

"Who lives with you?"

"Creampuff."

"Who is Creampuff?"

"My rabbit."

Mom stood frozen. "Anyways, Lily is coming over tonight. Do you know a good time?"

"In five minutes would do just fine. I live on 1849 Pumpkin Avenue."

A beep was heard, so mom hung up. "Lily, go get dressed in something slightly more formal."

I went to get my fancy dinner dress.
