Chapter 2.

Long Tail Sees War

'Emerald failed me Fang, now you must do his dirty work. I will have a great punishment ready for you too if you fail me. The Forest Warrior will be out on patrol at sunset with my sister Queen Forest. They are Elder Paw's soldiers so you must give a warning sign. Something that will show war is upon us. Now, take out Thistle and Spirit. I will make Amelia and Kashmir join you later when you attack' Queen Ice said.

'Yes, my Majesty' Fang replied. He went into the iciest chamber and took a silver sword that was quite jagged and was wavy.  He clutched it then returned to his Queen. 'The Ice Sword shall be used in war' he said. 'Not now naive mutt' Queen Ice replied sharply. 'I will kill Elder Paw with it. But now is not the time. I must gather inner power' she said.

The Forest Warriors marched with Queen Forest at their lead. She looked just like Queen Ice, same thick fur, tail tuft and wings. But she was a beech brown wolf, with little sparkling flowers blooming on her tail, shoulders and legs. Some brown specks were visible on her fur and her tail tuft was green. So were her wings and her eyes were also a leafy green shade.

Summer, the most significant of the Forest Warriors was a bark brown colored wolf. He had wild green eyes and stag horns. His tail and chest were just ruffled deep green leaves, criss-crossed with lighter ones. Ivy draped his legs and a few small bugs were tangled in his fur. Autumn was an older warrior, but not as important.

He too had stag horns but his fur was like dark brown timber. The leaves that made his tail and chest were bright amber, orange and red. Maroon berries hung from the thorns that draped his legs and a few splashed of glowing fungus were seen on his legs, head and haunches. His eyes were dark purple.

Spring was a sandy-brown wolf as well. She had sightly smaller horns and was a bit younger that the other two. The leaves she was covered in were very light green, nearly gray and sightly darker. Small pink flowers bloomed on the ivy she had draped on her legs. A few caterpillars wriggled in her fur.

Fang growled. 'Spirit, challenge Autumn. I will fight Queen Forest and you Thistle might tackle Spring. Amelia and Kashmir will be soon to help us. Go!' The three animals broke out of the bushed. Thistle, despite his small size bit deep into Springs leg, clawing at her side.

Spirit was hitting Autumn with his hooves, dodging his attempts to attack him. Then Autumn bit hard into Spirit's leg leaving him to neigh in despair. The Forest Warrior was draining his inner power. The mist that made up Spirit's mane slowly drifted into nothing but thin air.

With a mighty effort Spirit broke away from Autumns jaws and ran away. Thistle ran after him, a very deep scratch going across his side. While Fang was vainly trying to harm Queen Forest, Kashmir and Amelia came. Amelia trampled on Autumn but got thrown off. Kashmir bit hard into Summer but missed and fell into thorns.

Amelia was a chocolate brown horse with a dark mane and tail. She was lean and thin, like if she was underfed. Kashmir was many shades of light and dark blue, with a bushy tail. He had furry elfin ears and he was clouded with white spots. Black antlers stuck out form his head.

Kashmir struggled out of the branched, all scratched by the thorns. He fled. Amelia shouted 'This is pointless! Fang we must flee!' Fang was limping on three legs, one of his heads bleeding. They both fled. Just when they disappeared Long Tail and his brothers came over.

Long Tail was a wolf, but not an ordinary one. He was black with glowing sheen green stripes on his legs and one stripe across his side.  He had a tail the same shade of green. It was very long with a big tuft at the end. It had thin black stripes and a loop outstanding from the green tuft.

'So this means war... Queen Forest! Hide Princess Flower. I will send a few warriors to show Queen Ice we are still strong. Also tell your husband, Elder Paw. The King Of the Forest must know' he said and ran off.
