ZoeyThe moment Jazmyne said those words, she collapsed and passed out. Richard knelt down beside her as David opened his eyes. “What happened?” David as looking around confused. “Jazmyne gave her life to save you.” David sat up and then saw the girl barely alive laying on the ground. “Richard, do something.” “I’m sorry, I cannot. She used her own birthright to save you and I can’t save her.” “How could she?” Before Richard could say anything else, there came a voice, “Finish her, my son!” The boy that had been standing nearby shook his head and said, “No father. All I wanted was the keys not her life.” “Pathetic!” his father screamed as he began to glow. “Looks like I have to take things into my own hands again.” Suddenly a bow and arrow like weapon appeared in his hand. He pulled back the arrow and let it go. It headed straight for Jazmyne. Then it suddenly disappeared. “Not my child! I told you that if you ever harm her when she could not fight for herself you’d regret it!” We all looked as a young woman appeared. Then I saw someone else with her. I instantly knew her. “Goddess Mia,” I whispered.
I ignored the gasps behind me as I watched the young woman approach Richard. She placed a hand on Jazmyne and pulled away fast. “I’m sorry my son I cannot save her. It would kill me to do so.” “You can’t but someone can.” We all turned to find the guy we’d saw earlier. Richard responded to him much the way Jazmyne had. “What are you doing here?” The boy said, “Only her daughter can save her now. Amelia is in between many worlds but her body is still in this one.” The girl with him said, “Why would anyone want to save her. She is not my mother!” “Amenika, she is the only one that can help us. Whether or not you want to admit it, you share her blood. Never forget that.” “Again I say; why would anyone save her?” “You should because she saved you!” Richard turned to the girl with angry in his eyes. “All those years ago she died so you could live. She knew that having you would kill her, but she wouldn’t let you go. She kept her heart beating so yours could beat.”
“How would you know?” “I know because I watch her die a little every day. I tried to get her to let you go. She swore to protect you as long as she could. Never once did she think about her own life but always yours.” “If you know so much, who’s my father?” “I don’t know that was one fact she refused to speak of. All I know is that he was human.” “No shit, aren’t we all.” “No Amenika, you are only half human. The blood of your mother is immortal blood.” “Are you for real? Immortal yeah right! I wouldn’t believe that to save my life.” Suddenly there was a blast of light that left Jazmyne’s body. Suddenly the young girl looked even younger in Richard’s arms. Richard began to cry. David said, “What’s going on?” Richard said, “The poison is taking her. She fought it but it’s too much for her and she’s dying faster now. I’m losing my baby sister, Amenika. You are the last hope for this family. We lose her everything falls out of balance. Her soul is on the scale and she’s tipping it.” He broke off sobbing. The young woman said, “Richard, we have to let her go. Our last hope lies with Angelica and we’ve just about lost her too.” Amenika said, “Can this Angelica help us, Kyle?” The boy shook his head and said, “No, only Amelia has the gift to help us.” Amenika said, “What do I have to do?”
The young woman said, “Just believe that through your own blood you can save her and it will come to you naturally.” Amenika approached Richard and Jazmyne. She reached down and said, “I don’t believe you’re my mother but I need help with something. You will help me if you’re truly my mother.” She touched Jazmyne’s forehead and another blast of light shone between the two. Jazmyne’s eyes opened slowly as Amenika stood up slowly. Jazmyne looked around. Then she saw Amenika. “Cherish you didn’t have to do this! This isn’t how it was supposed to be. I was supposed to save you not the other way around!” Amenika said, “You see this! She doesn’t…” “I wasn’t done. I was about to say, you shouldn’t have saved me but I’m glad you did.” Amenika said, “I need you to do something.” Suddenly the young woman said, “Cain, I want you and Calvin to leave now. You’ve caused enough damage today.” With that she, Goddess Mia, and the two guys left.”
Then Jazmyne said, “I know what you want. Your son has been stolen and as a mother you want him back. Kyle the only reason I haven’t blast you from here to the next dimension is because he’s your son as well. As much as I don’t appreciate this, I have to accept you because she had no idea about the rivalry, but know this Kyle, you make one misstep and I’ll forget that that boy is your son. Do we understand each other?” He nodded and said, “Will you help us?” Jazmyne started to say something when Cherish said, “How do you know what I want?”

I looked at her and said, “I’m your mother. I know when things aren’t quite right.” Cherish looked at me and asked if I would help her. I said, “I will but I can’t right now. I am not able to help you right now but come back in two weeks and I will help you find your son.” She said, “Okay but I still don’t believe you are my mother. I just want my son back and you can get the hell out of my life.” I nodded and said, “I can’t promise I can get your son just yet but I can find him.” “Same difference,” she said turning and walking away. The boy ran behind her and I bowed my head defeated. I knew what I had to do but it didn’t mean I wanted to do it. I turned to Zoey and the others and said, “I need to leave for the next two weeks. I just need to go. I’m sorry.” As I turned to go, Zoey said, “You can’t leave. All fledglings die without an adult vampyre with them.”
I didn’t think about how to tell her I was not a fledgling and was trying to think of a way to tell her when Neferet said, “She only needs one adult and I’m not completely welcomed here yet. I’ll go with her.” I turned and said, “I’d rather die than hang with you for the next two weeks. They may not see it, but I see the threads of Darkness around you. I also know that you are in alliance with the white bull. I know he’s you Consort. Matter of fact, I also know that you’re immortal and therefore I would rather die.” With that I turned to go. I was almost to the door when Aphrodite said, “She’ll be okay. I know it sounds stupid but I have a feeling she’ll be better off going alone.” I looked at her and mouthed, “Thank you.” She nodded and with that I left.
The moment I got away from the school, I jumped into the air and began to fly. I finally began to calm down as the sun began to come up. I just needed to fly as south as I could for as long as I could. House of night would never be the same as long as I was around. I was beginning to doubt I could be of any good to anyone. I was angry with myself. I centered myself and just spent those two weeks praying to the Goddess and trying to find myself. I didn’t know what was going to happen but I just knew House of Night needed a huge wake up call. Then I had my Vision.
I said, “Not until you agree to let me come with you.” He said, “Fine but there’s nothing you can do.” We went to his car and drove to my grandmother’s house. He was about to go in the house when I said, “Wait, I have another idea.” He looked at me as the ancient power ran through him giving him pain. I knew I had to move fast. I found the pebbles on the ground. I tossed one up to my sister’s window and waited. When she didn’t come to window I threw another one. I knew if she didn’t come this time, Erik would go after her. Lucky for me, she came to the window and saw me. “Sis,” she nearly screamed. I shushed her and told her to pack a bag and to come downstairs for she wouldn’t be coming back. Then I saw Erik as another pain went through him and told her to hurry.
Two minutes later, she was out the door locking it. Erik almost startled her, as he came up behind her. The ancient power hurting his stomach as he touched her forehead and said, “Maya Sanders, Night has chosen thee; thy death will be thy birth! Night calls to thee; hearken to her sweet voice! Your destiny awaits you at the House of Night!” I looked at her and saw the blue crescent on her forehead and smile. She said, “What are you doing here, sis? Your ex has…” I reached out and touched her; a spell on my lips. As I touched her I spoke the spell and she fainted. Erik looked at me and said, “Was that necessary?” I nodded and said, “She can be a bigmouth sometimes. I don’t need her to tell me about my exes; I know exactly what they are doing. Besides I don’t need our grandmother to wake up. Maya doesn’t know a lot of things about me but I don’t need her loudmouth right now. It was just a spelling spell. She’ll wake up in two hours refreshed and ready to fuss.”
We drove back to the school and I carried the sleeping girl into the school. Thanatos walked over to us and said, “Who’s this?” I said, “Maya Sanders, my little sister.” Zoey laughed as she came over. “Do you have enough family?” I couldn’t say anything; she was right I had a lot of family but only Richard and I knew the whole truth. Erik said, “I finally marked someone right.” Before I was ready, the girl began to squirm in my arms. She moaned and reached out and scratched me. “Ouch!” I said as I ran my hand over her body to calm her. Suddenly her eyes flew open, but instantly I knew something wasn’t right.
“Maya?” I whispered as I placed her on her feet. “What do you think you’re doing?” In that moment I realized my sister was possessed. “I’m not Maya but you know who I am. You tried to destroy me but you can’t destroy our destiny.” “Shut up!” I yelled as I backed up. I realized who this person was although I’d prayed never to see him again. “I have no destiny with you. I chose my own fate. I don’t know how you got the strength to possess my sister but she knows nothing so you might as well leave her alone. She doesn’t know me. Not the way that you once knew me, Lonnie the unbreakable one, you broke more than one promise, not just to Heaven but to me! Just as you go against your name; I go against mine and will not forgive you.” “Why?” he asked. “Unlike you, this time, I chose Love and Honor!” I said looking him in his eyes. With that my sister’s body collapsed as he left her body. I grabbed her as Richard, who’d seen the whole thing, said, “Sis, if I knew no better, I’d say it was alumni week around here.” I looked at Richard and said, “No, Richard. As usually it’s my fault. Not everyone was so understanding about me putting my past aside and living as normally as possible and now deciding to come back and take my place in my family. Not everyone is as understanding as you and the rest of our family are. As usually I’m causing a lot of problems in this family.”
“Not true, sis! We made the decision to let you go and you made this decision because as usually you put your family’s needs above your own. You were not to be a part of this life anymore but we needed you to come back and you made your decision to come back. Sis, we love you but we also understand that the drama that you wanted to do away with would be back if you came back to this family.” “Stop right there. You’re right I choose to come back to this life. This was not supposed to be this way but remember Richard; I have responsibilities to this family. I can’t run from my past anymore. Cherish is the only thing in my past life that was not a mistake. Even if I did chose to allow the bulls to talk me into their promises. I made that decision. Richard, I allowed myself to hurt and go through all the pain and madness that I did for Cherish. I love her just as I love David. Remember not everyone approves my choice of taking on a human lover.”
I looked around happy that the only people in the room were Thanatos, Zoey and her friends, Stark, Rephaim, David, and Lenobia. Zoey said, “What did you mean when you said that not everyone approved of David?” David said, “That’s what I would like to know.” Richard said, “He knew what he was getting into when he decided to be bond to you. You had no choice you could not continue living without a bond mate. You are the strongest person we’ve ever known and you know what forget whoever doesn’t accept David has your bond mate. Gabrielle and Michael have accepted David and so have I and that’s all that matters.”
I turn to Richard and said, “I can’t keep secrets from my friends anymore. They deserve to know the truth.” “Are you sure sis? I mean you don’t have…” “Richard I do have to do this. Not just for me and David but for Cherish and Maya.
