Family Connections
Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain across my chest. I spun around gasping as Thanatos and the whole class looked at me. I felt like I was dying. Richard ran into the room and held me. He was talking to me but I couldn’t hear anything until David walked in and said, “What the hell?” I tried to pinpoint what was happening when I said, “Cherish!” Richard and David backed up as Richard said, “Follow her; let the ancient power lead you.” David looked as bewildered as I did until another power over took me. I gasped and ran out of the room. Thanatos came up behind me and grabbed me as she stopped me. I looked at her and she said, “Where are you going?” I tried to pull away and said, “To Cherish.” She said, “You sure that it’s not a trick. Sometimes people will harm you if they know your weakness.” I stopped and thought for a minute realizing she was right. I hung my head ashamed as another pain hit me. This one drove me to my knees and into tears.Neferet came out of her room just as everyone began changing classes. Thanatos tried to pull me to my feet and get me out of the hall. Everyone stopped and looked at me. Before anyone could say anything I felt someone call to me though the Ancient Blood. I looked at Richard who nodded and pulled me to my feet. “Let’s go, sis.” Thanatos stood up and said that we weren’t going anywhere. I began to sweat. Richard noticed and said, “We have to go.” Then Rephaim said, “Someone is calling them.” Thanatos looked like she didn’t believe him. We couldn’t believe it either until he said, “You wouldn’t hear it. I don’t hear it but I know because my father used to call us though the blood we shared. They’re not sweating because they’re hot; they’re sweating because their resisting the call.”
Suddenly the call was stronger and I almost stumbled. I felt the call as if it was right behind me. I turned and saw the young girl. She was talking to a guy. I didn’t recognize him but I should have. The girl said, “You said you would help me find my mother and then you lead me here? I can’t believe you.” He told her, “Your own blood brought you here which means your birth mother is here. She is the only one who can help you. You share her blood and you will have to trust it.” Then the girl turned to me and I saw her for the first time and instantly knew. I heard a few gasps behind me but ignored them. I stepped forward and reached out for her, not believing. “Cherish!” I whispered and that broke the spell. “Who are you? My name’s not Cherish.” Then I felt hurt knowing her name. “Amenika!” I spat out. She looked at me and said, “You don’t know me so don’t judge me.” “No, no, no! You idiot! You better be glad you’re dead or I’d kill you myself. I told you not to name her that!” I screamed suddenly angry. Then as sudden as the anger came, it left. Richard held me and softly rocked me until I calmed down and then I said, “Amenika was never supposed to be your name.” She said, “How would you know?”
I looked at her and said, “You don’t know what your name means.” Then the guy looked at me and I knew him instantly. “What are you doing here? Go away and never return. You belong by your father’s side. That’s where you chose to be all those years ago.” Cherish (Amenika) said, “What gives you the authority to speak to him like that?” Before I could speak he said, “She has every right to speak to me like that. I hurt her all those years ago. She’s right I did choose my father side many years ago. She’s your mother and that means that what people said about you is true. But Amelia, I love her and I have turned away from my father. I stand here before you and everyone you love to ask for forgiveness and to ask you to help us with something.” Cherish said, “Wait back up, she’s my MOTHER? How can that be?” David said, “That’s what I’d like to know, Jazmyne.” I looked at him and he said, “What else did you lie about? Do you really love me or is that a lie? I mean I thought I was going to be your first. I thought your name was Jazmyne? Who’s Nydia or is that you too?”
The guy said, “Oops, I didn’t realize that you were bond to him.” “I’m not! Your brother still thinks I love him and has been causing trouble. Kyle, you of all people know that I don’t love your brother and next time you speak to him tell him that I said if he ever comes back around here or finds himself into my dreams again, he’ll regret the day he met Amelia, the forgiving Angel.” With that I turned and ran. Not knowing where I was going, I just let my feet guide me. I finally stopped when I could no longer see through my tears. “What’s wrong?” I turned towards the voice and saw Lenobia. I didn’t know what to say, I was sobbing too hard and just wanted to be held. She seemed to know that because she held me in her arms and slowly rocked me as I cried.
Then I felt another breeze and saw the goddess turn and stare as a mist appeared and then as it cleared I saw her gasp. “Sis!” she said as another goddess appeared. “Goddess Nyx,” Zoey said as the goddess looked at her. Then the two goddesses looked at each other and embraced. Then they turned to us and Goddess Mia said, “My sister, meet Jazmyne Sanders.” Goddess Nyx said, “Sister, meet Zoey Redbird and Lenobia. I have made my choice and ask that you approve. Zoey Redbird is to be my eyes and ears for my children.” Mia said, “I approve your choice and ask that you hear and approve my choice. Jazmyne Sanders is to be my eyes and ear for my children.” Nyx said, “I approve. Now can we please tell them why we are here?” Mia nodded and said, “Zoey as my niece you were given gifts that my sister felt you were best suited for. You have the gift of all five…” Suddenly there was a loud explosion and the goddesses said that they had to go but would be back. Suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. I run towards the main office of the building where I found Calvin. Instantly I knew what was wrong and ran to David who was lying on the floor. “NOOO!” I screamed as I knelt beside him. “I’m sorry, sis!” I looked up at Richard and said, “Why didn’t you do something?” “Sis there was nothing I could do! I tried sis but there was nothing that could be done.”
“There’s something I can do!” “Sis, no! He’s gone!” “Richard, you cannot stop me for it is mine by birthright to command. His heart still beats; therefore, he is not gone. I once choose to let love shatter me, now I choose honor to heal me.” Richard said, “Sis, you cannot do this. It will kill you.” I said, “I stood by once before as the same poison ran though another’s veins and did nothing. NOT THIS TIME, RICHARD!” I turned back to David and raised my head to the sky and said, “I, Amelia, Daughter of Gabrielle and Michael call upon my own blood, which is mine by birthright to command, and ask that this poison take me instead. I pay this price with my life in exchange for his.” I felt the poison flowing though my veins and collapsed into David. Everything started going fuzzy and I knew this time would be different. I whispered, “I love you, David.” Then everything went black and I lost consciousness.
