What is the best way to confront a close friend who has stolen from you?

If they really like and admire you, they stole it cause they're jealous and will regret it later, will feel ashamed. You can either forgive and forget or not. It might depend on whether they'd do it again. Was what they stole important to you? More than your friendship?
