Ok story time gather round kids.
So a little background first. My mom grew up in Kazakhstan (which was at the time part of the soviet union) and moved here in her early twenties. So she grew up with a major russian influence, and in case you dont know, russia historically and now is very very homophobic. However i never really thought about my moms opinion on the subject, and it never came up.
So now that youre a little caught up, we may begin. My little brother whos six has See More▼ this crush on a girl in his class and my mom likes to tease him about it. She has this little game she plays where she goes through his classmates one by one and asks who likes who. So she goes down her usual list, who does blank like, what about blank, etc etc and gets to a boy named Matin. "And who does Matin like?" My little brother pauses for a second and says "Oh, Matin likes Oscar." My mom looks really taken back and says "What? But Matin cant like Oscar, hes a boy." My little brother, who may i remind you is in kindergarden shrugs in the most innocent way possible and says "So what? A boy can like a boy if he wants to." And im shrieking in my head YESSSSS and my mom shakes her head and says "No, thats wrong. Boys can only like girls." So im left to stew in that for a minute, i had never in my life would have pegged my mom as homophobic. So i muster up the courage and ask "So what, a boy cant like a boy?" And my mom turns to me with a weird look on her face and says "Marina, stop with this American propaganda. Go read a bible!" And as a bit more backstory, our family is russian orthodox but very nonobservant, we never go to church or pray nor have i ever touched a bible. So yeah.

Later after dinner i call my brother over and tell him that yes, a boy can like a boy and a girl can like a girl. He just says I know, mom was joking right? so i told him "yes, yes she was" and really really hope he stays that way

I have a question, I really want to be an artist for a living, but I'm having troubles...how long did it take you to get this good? Also if you have any tips I'd probably cry of happiness cause I need to learn XD

Well I use prismacolors (these to be exact http://www.target.com/p/prismacolor-premier-colored-pencils-48ct/-/A-50918948?ref=tgt_adv_XS000000&AFID=google_pla_df&CPNG=&adgroup=&LID=700000001170770pgs&network=g&device=m&location=9030951&gclid=CjwKEAjwps2_BRC5jduHor-h8xESJADGT-LtiotJQN61dg28AQL3hRSMYjYotofh8eBrtuQ5Q8L47hoCB57w_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds ) and i actually got See More▼ them for 60 bucks, total ripoff fucck off blick, and these are only 30 with free shipping, so that pretty dope. And yes, it is a totally worthwhile investment and the quality of your art goes WAY UP (at least for me) with quality materials. So yes, i would defenitely recommend buying them! Good luck again!

Oh! Well im actually pretty surprised and flattered that youd ask me about this sort of matter ? But um i guess id have to say i first started getting serious (whatever that means) about my art around 3 or 4 years ago? I actually remember the drawing that was sort of the "turning point" for me... As for advice, its naturally pretty tough to just give advice on See More▼ how to "art," but what i can say from personal experience is that its so much better to just sit down and do something in one go with short breaks rather than to stretch it out over weeks or even months (its been 5 months since my last drawing god help me.) But yeah if youd like advice on a specific piece feel free to ask, id be happy to give some tips! Again, super flattered, and im sure as long as you keep at it you can go big ???
