Clouds like faded skywriting, a fleeting blank yet to be filled with words too high to touch. A plastic bag fills up with air, choking in a shuddered breath, a sweeping arc like a cursive letter written in clear ink. Bougainvillea petals join the sentence like bloody punctuation marks. An abandoned ball pressed up against the fence, consumed by a screen of jealous leaves, so plain to me but nonexistent to the laughter on the other side. The perplexing riddle of why of the two See More▼ identical handrails one is chipped and calloused and the other garnished with lazuline paint like a duchess in a thick minx coat. I pick up a shard of mirror off of the equally cracked sidewalk and another petal falls off the lavender assortment choking in my hand. I turn and find the ball is missing, flustered branches reaching out in struggle to conceal the loss. The dulled edges eat into my palm, darkened purple just shy of a vermilion that sting in a defeated amber. The frustration carries me no further and the glass is kept as a proud trophy instead. I look up to see another mirror, unbroken of milky streaks and instead reflecting azure paint, empty of that left unsaid.
