The World of Promises
Chapter 2.

The Conflict..

        Spinach whined.
"M-morning?" He whimpered.
"Yea.. I'm still here." I sighed. The house was so quiet. I wanted to just sit and cry forever. I wanted to go with my Girl. I wanted to go with Tara. I would even go with the boy. But I had to be there for Spinach, even if he was 2 moons older than me. I wriggled under the bed with him and licked his puppy ears.
"It'll be okay. We'll do something about this. Come on." I jumped back out and started for the door. I heard Spinach's pounding paws behind me as he followed. I stopped by the door and started at the thing that made it open.
"How-?" Before I could finish, Spinach had clamped his teeth around it and turned his head painfully. The door came open. Rain was pouring down.
"Follow me! I know how we can get out of the yard." He galloped to the fence and started digging. Wet soil flew behind him as he dug fiercely. Then he slid under. I followed. It was much easier for me since I was smaller.
The outside of our yard consisted of more yards, smaller and more decorated. A giant black dog howled at us, glaring at me especially. I was scared.
"Now where?" I asked Spinach. He gave a signal with his head and started to gallop toward the street. I stumbled after him, my soft paws sliding in the mud. He crossed the soaked street where blinding lights shone. A light shone right in my eyes, so I couldn't see. I staggered around.
"Spinach?!" I called desperately. Oh no. What if he had left, thinking I was still with him? I started to whimper. Suddenly I heard a loud beep sounding.
"MORNING! WATCH OUT!!!" A voice howled. I was scooped up and bounced around. The horn passed. I still couldn't see. I continued to bounce up and down. I was obviously being carried. But what if it wasn't Spinach?
"Is.. It you?" I whispered. The voice laughed. "Of course it is!"
I grinned and went silent. I was already sleepy from this. My eyes quivered and closed.
When I awoke, I was lying under green leaves. Next to me was a dark brown figure. Spinach. I smiled sleepily. I turned over. There were giant green eyes staring at me. I screamed and leapt up.
"Who are you?! I have claws and I'm not afraid to use them!" I howled. Spinach rustled beneath his leaves, and he was at my side. He growled protectively.
"Calm yourselves!" It was a kitten. He looked to be my age. His fur color was black and white and looked like a Husky dog, which had been at my house before (we were puppy-sitting). The kitten smiled softly.
"O-Oh. Well... I'm Morning. And who may you be?"
"The kitten tilted his head. "Viper. And.. Who's the dog?" He looked at Spinach like the brown dog was a creature from a new place.
"Oh! I'm Spinach." The brown dog lowered his haunches and grinned happily. I stared at the tom intently, trying to decide whether he was good or bad.
"So.. Do you want to come with us? We are trying to find our owners."  I asked.
"Um.. Sure. I guess I have nothing better to do." He muttered.
"Follow Spinach. He knows a lot about the wild. He goes on walks with my owners... At least he used to.." I sighed sadly. The tom followed Spinach. I trailed behind, thinking. What if we never found our owners again? Where would we go? What would we do?
I suppose that decision is for Future Morning.
