Chapter 1.

I am a Liar.

I am not going to pretend that there is a secret to a happy life. I understand why the title might be confusing then. "Why promise secrets and deliver doubt?" You may ask. Too many people spend their lives searching for secrets or the meaning of life... they are searching for short cuts to some sort of success they have dreamed up, but short cuts are nothing more then hallucinations.
What do people want most in the world? Is it money, fame, family, or maybe a legacy... no, its none of the above. What people want most in the world is to be happy. They feel that wealth or recognition or maybe love will make them feel this way and that's why they take short cuts to get these things. You cannot force happiness you can only accept it. It is in all of us to be happy no matter our situation. Whether we are poor, no one knows our name, or we seem perpetually alone... we have the capacity to be happy if only we allow it.
I know a lot of the kids on this site are in a time in there lives when they question everything. They feel there is some secret to life that they must unlock or happiness will never come. They feel there future depends on besting others, but this is not true. I am not going to pretend like these words will solve your every self doubt or that what I say applies to everyone, but if it can apply to just one person and help make growing up for them just a little easier then these hours typing this out for the few that will read it will be well spent.

The following chapters will be devoted to the following topics that seem most prominent... feel free to skip forward to any chapters that you think might apply to you:

Chapter one........................................................................................................................................Self Confidence
Chapter two..............................................................................................................................................Being Alone
Chapter three.............................................................................................................................................Limitations
Chapter four.................................................................................................................................Fear of the Unknown
Chapter five........................................................................................................................................Not a Conclusion

Uuuuggghhh now I need to have a deep, philosophical convo with someone...

Haha why?

Exactly. Many people don't trust intuition. That is why when people start measuring their happiness on facts or comparing to a picture of happiness rather then trusting their own gut then they are blinded by ambitions and let the negatives of helping others outweigh the simple fact that it is the right thing to do.

But why? They're dismissed faster, but only because logic makes more sense to most of us than intuition. We don't trust what we don't understand.

A lot of people will argue with that. Some will even argue with it just to spite a God they don't believe in. Yes facts will be questions, but the people who question them are dismissed a lot faster then those who question intuition.

People will always question logic, too.
And, if you really think about it...
Logic points to God.
God points to his spirit within us as our guides.
So, in my opinion, intuition is both logic and God, so who can argue with it? It's ten times as solid.

Because there will always be someone to question it. Logic is only taken as fact because evidence is presented that convinces people it is not debatable. Intuition has no evidence we rely on our trust in our own feelings and people will always question that.

And why is intuition not as solid as cold, hard logic?

Is that not a little selfish? That reason is survival. It's an animal instinct to ensure that the race survives and you feel that selflessness is important because we need it to survive. There is no true selfless explanation for it. You could say simply that it is the right thing to do because you feel it in your bones. That would be my explanation, but intuition See More▼

Look at our world. Every time something bad has happened, it's because of a selfish choice. Because we weren't willing to care about those around us more than ourselves. Or even just care about everyone. If we were all just a tad more selfless, this world would be in a lot better of a place.

Why do you think it's important though?

Because. Selflessness is important. We care too much about ourselves. It just is...

Oh, great. Now I sound like an Abnegation.

Why is it the right thing to do? I'm not saying it's not, but why do you think it is?

Definitely, although it would be complicated. Let's just assume that it exists and speak hypothetically. Wouldn't it still be the right thing to do to help others despite what it did to you?

Can you give me a circumstance in which helping others would cause only hurt and no fulfilment?
reply

But what if there wasn't? What if helping others never benefited you at all, in any way? Then you should still help others, even if all that it ever did was hurt you.

If the person doing the good deed is not unhappy then they are gaining something. I wasn't saying that good deeds are done simply for your own happiness. Make others happy is a source of happiness for those doing the deeds. They may be inconvenienced, or drained, or hurt, but they are still happy to do these things. There is a fulfilment in that that would make See More▼

I'm not saying that. But I am saying that good deeds can't be done just for the sake of happiness for yourself, or they become pointless. You really know that you care about others when you take care of them when you gain nothing from it or are even drained or hurt by it.

Why can't you be happy while helping others? Why are good deeds only good if the person doing them is unhappy?

Maybe so, but.... If we do things for others in order to benefit ourselves and become happy, doesn't that defeat the point?

Well personally I believe true happiness comes from helping and inspiring others.

Yeah, maybe.

But is the meaning really different for everyone? Should happiness really be our true end goal? Isn't that rather selfish?

That's what I truly believe at least. It's a waste of time to question the meaning of life because once you know yourself the meaning of it all should come along with that.

Honestly no one can ever know because the answer is different for everyone. Living life to the fullest is allowing yourself to be happy and happiness should come from a different place for everyone. We are here to coexist and overcome obstacles. We are here to live a life that we can be proud of and no one can tell you what your meaning is but yourself.

Why can't we know??? I'm sure that we can know. And how would we "live life to the fullest"? What's "the fullest"? What should our goal be? Why are we here?
