Chapter 4.

|| CHRISTMAS/HOLIDAY SPECIAL ||

Not cannon to current storyline! Just some really short holiday fluff to get me back into the swing of writing!! I'm not dead! <3

   It was the holiday season and Sal sat on his windowsill, purring softly as he watched the snow fall from his window. Most people wouldn't expect snow in Cali due to notoriously hot and sunny weather, but this season was surprisingly cold up in Northern California. Of course, there wasn't as much snow as there was back in Nockfell, just a light blanketing of glittery white on the ground, but it was still something.

    “Sal?” A voice rasped out, earning the attention of the Neko.

    Travis Phelps. Sal's boyfriend, wrapped up in a fuzzy blue blanket with an upset look on his face. He looked like a mess. Bleached blonde hair a mess with clear dark brown roots screaming to be re-bleached, brown eyes puffy and bloodshot from crying, deep eye bags from lack of sleep, cheeks stained from tears, and a seeming permanent from pulling at his lips. He never did well when it came to the holidays, too many painful memories of his dad. Christmastime made him tense, emotional, and antsy, for lack of better words.

    “Are you alright, honey?” Sal asked, getting up from his spot and quietly crossing the room to where his boyfriend stood. Travis just sniffled and shook his head, leaning down just enough to put his forehead on his lover's shoulder. The smaller boy just reached up, comfortingly running his fingers through the bleached blonde locks of the other. “Do you wanna talk about it?” Travis shook his head again, “Alright. How about we just cuddle, then?” Travis nodded, reaching his hands down to grab Sal by his hips and start to waddle backward to the bed.

    The couple slowly climbed into the bed, Sal having to quietly chide Travis for hogging the blanket before snuggling into the blonde's chest, his soft blue ears pushing back as he began to purr; his chest rumbling softly with the noise. Travis wrapped his arms around Sal, his calloused hands running along the soft fabric of the neko's warm black sweater. His lover felt like an enigma to him. Sal's constant androgynous look no matter what he wears, his oddly vibrant blue hair, the prosthetic he always seemed to wear, and its never-changing expression. It was that mysterious that had drawn Travis to Sal in the first place. A strange new kid moving in from New Jersey. No matter how much Travis thought he knew about Sal, he was always surprised. He knew so much about his lover, yet so little about him as well. And saying he liked it would be a grave understatement.

    “I'm sorry for how I treated you in high school, Sal,” Sal lifted his head, the purring pausing briefly as he stared up at the other before it continued, “That was years ago, love. It's fine, don't mention it.” He reassured, “Let's not think about stuff like that, right, I want you to feel better, not worse.”

    Travis sighed, brushing Sal's bangs out of the way as he leaned down to kiss the forehead of his prosthetic, “Merry Christmas.”

    “Merry Christmas, honey.”

    There was a long pause as neither of them spoke, just enjoying each other's warmth and the sound of Sal's purring coupled with the hum of the heater.

    “I love you,” Travis mumbled, his eyes beginning to close as he started to realize how sleepy he was.

                                                                                        “I love you too, Travis.”
