Chapter 11.

POV: Girl (2)

The boy that saw me is dead. Was it my fault? He told me to run. I distracted him. Now Mr. Monster killed him. He told me to run, I ran to the back of the cave. Turns out, the monster didn't have hamburgers. He had -- people. All the adults that he ever attacked were -- eaten or dead. My mommy. She's missing her arms and legs. The red milk doesn't come out anymore. But she's still gone. She smells yucky! Mommy never smells yucky ever! She always smells of flowers and fruits, but not now. Mommy. Why did you leave me?

I sat down and cried next to her for a while. Her eyes are still closed, her skin is still cold. I sat like this and cried. Until I heard a scream -- and a thump. I told mommy I loved her and gave her a hug before running out of the cave. The girl. The boy's sister maybe? She stood over top of the monster. Something was sticking out of his head. He was spilling red milk too. NO! TOO MUCH RED MILK! NO MORE! NO MORE!

The girl laughed and smiled. It was weird, and scary. Her teeth weren't normal anymore. The were all sharp. Her face was covered in red milk. She has red milk on her shirt too, just like me. Her skin went from colourful and rosy to -- white. Pale. White. Like a vampire. Or an egg. She looked over at me. Her eyes went from a pretty brown, like chocolate, to a scary yellow, like yolk. The black part of her eye -- what did mommy call it? A pupil? -- went all thin. It reminded me of the scary snake that killed daddy. I panicked. All the red milk. Everywhere. I screamed.

Mommy was still cold when I got back. Still gone. I sat next to her. She's the last one I had. The next monster was going to kill me. Why did Mr. Monster keep me alive? My belly rumbled. I haven't eaten in a long time. Me and mommy were poor so we didn't eat often. I leaned on mommy, getting more red milk on my shirt. My eyes slowly closed. And then, I was  with mommy again.
