Chapter 3.

Being Prisoner

Greg 7/6/44
It was all so fast. He was down before I realised what was about to happen but no, that was the past, this is now the coolness of fresh blood running down my neck, the scent of beer and the noise of laughter. I finally open my eyes and look up into the face of death, the man named blood: his lips move but I can’t make out what he is saying but from his gestures and facial expression it has something to do with death. I pray for Shwazki and, of course, for myself, I pray to the lord to make this a sick dream, that I will wake up and me and Shwazki will really be sitting together cheering over the defeat of these Harrowing, disgracefully cruel Nazi demons that truly belong in hell but no, that was just a hopeless wish, the Nazis were strong and growing stronger, what power could possibly bring them to defeat?
Greg 7/6/44
Screams. They awake me from my sleep like state of pondering, who? To hell I hoped it wasn’t Shwazki, I was past thinking about my wellbeing, I had to save him, he was the one who stopped them from killing me, know I must stop them from killing him. I stumble towards the door but am stopped by the restraints that are holding me prisoner.
Shwazki 7/6/44
The screaming is unbearable the horror of what I see will never leave my mind, no matter what I do, maybe I should end myself now, avoid the pain I will feel for him and eventually the pain that will end me. The grinding of his bones, the ripping of his flesh, for ever haunting me.

Greg 7/6/44
I gather my thoughts and clear my mind, look at you surrounding, a voice tells me so I do, I should never listen to that god dam voice again, a skeleton, leaning against the wall staring into my soul. The door opens a man emerges from the shadows, “es ist Zeit zu gehen, mach dir keine Sorgen, es wird schnell vorbei sein!”* The man says, from his hand gestures I think I may be about to die.

*it’s time to go, don’t worry it’ll be over quickly
