A Game of Hearts

Heart drabble challenge using Yu-Gi-Oh!. Heavy Duke x OC here, as I'm using this to further figure out how they would interact. These will generally not be in a storytelling format and more 'episodic', with each chapter being a standalone thing but past ones may be referenced in later ones.

Chapter 2.

Paper Heart

An irritated look that so often crossed Hilda’s face found its way there again. A duel should really be nothing too special, yet to say this one put her on edge was a bit of an understatement. Even if she had won, the fact that something so simple could be turned so sinister threw what seemed to be her calm nature into a cyclone. Then again, that was simply what they saw. Even with that long finished, she was still shaken up, but why?

A familiar voice soon called out to her, snapping the young game maker out of her thoughts. Funny, she didn’t remember hearing anyone come by; none other than Duke Devlin himself, nonetheless.

        “Still shaken up, I see?”

Her face grew to a little less annoyed expression at the comment. As much as she appreciated the concern, she wasn’t one willing to show any form of what she viewed as her own weakness. She sighed, “Not at all. What’s it to you? You bored since Joey’s little sister isn’t around or something?”

“Not really. What can I say? You seemed pretty scared back there, after all; who’s to say I’m not worried about such a pretty girl?” the green-eyed teen simply smirked and laughed with a shake of his head; that only seeming to further Hilda’s irritation, “You aren’t as hard to read as you think, you know.”

Hilda twirled her head away, a faint pinkish color showing up on her face at the compliment. She knew she was bad at taking them, but even this was weird for her. Still, she’d deny it regardless, “And what makes you think that-?!”

The other merely laughed at her reaction, “Well, it’s pretty obvious right now.” That would earn him a glare from the knight duelist and a quick ‘shut up’ along with it. So, maybe he was right, even if she wasn’t going to admit it. She practically had a paper heart.
