Scent of the Past

Azami's POV
        I trudged along the forest lane, my exceed at my side. My pack weighed heavy on my back as I struggled to keep moving. We had been traveling from town to town for the last year, never staying in one place for long. I glanced at my exceed, Siryu. Her wings were beating slower and slower every second, sweat matting her thick cream-colored fur. If we didn't find a place to stop soon, she would collapse, and I don't think I could carry her as well. As we got over the top of the hill we were climbing, I spotted a large town nearby.
        I breathed out in relief and turned to Siryu.
        "Look, here we are! I told you we were close to Magnolia! See, I wasn't reading the map wrong."
        She rolled her eyes and just kept flying. I pouted and stepped forward to follow her when I tripped over a rock. I tumbled down the hill, all my aches suddenly becoming agony. I soon reached the bottom and promptly screamed. My arm was broken.
        I bit my lip as tears welled in my eyes. Blood spilled over my lip from how hard I was biting it. Tears rolled down my cheeks as Siryu sped toward me as fast as she could.
        "Ohmigod, Azami! Are you okay?!" She fussed over me and soon noticed my broken arm. "AZAMI! We need to get this fixed! Here, I'll pick you up."
        She curled her tail around my waist, and flew upward, straining to carry me as she sped over the ground. I restrained from screaming and fresh tears poured down my cheeks as the wind drew my arm back painfully.
        "Siriyu...just get me to water....." I groaned.
She didn't even acknowledge she heard me, but she immediately changed direction to a nearby lake. She set me on the shore, and I submerged my arm in the icy water.
        I closed my eyes and murmured, "Water Dragon Slayer's Healing Flow..."
        The cold water swirled around my arm and glowed a pale blue as I felt the bones in my arms growing back together and popping into place. A sigh of relief escaped me as all the pain left me. I drew my arm from the water, now dry and healed. I popped the joints in my knuckles and tested it.
        "Ahhh...That feels better." I stood up and looked over at Siryu, who was watching me anxiously. I smiled gently at her. "It's alright. I'm fine."
        She smiled back at me. Suddenly, a certain familiar scent hit me like a brick wall. My eyes widened. I looked at the tree above me and spotted someone I thought I would never see again.
