Flashback pt. 2

-Flashback continues-

He jumped up.
"Mia, let's go!," he yelled while running down the hill towards our town. "Get your mother and I'll meet you back here."
We were running in the same direction. Suddenly I was Gloria Walkins run around the corner. She was the same age as me and James, but we never spent any time together. James stopped, so I did too.
"James!" Gloria yelled. She ran over and hugged him like they haven't seen each other in ages. She gave him a fat kiss on the lips! How dare she?! The worst part was that he returned the kiss!
I sat there dumbfounded. Tears started streaming down my face. I knew what was going on now. James was seeing Gloria too. I knew they weren't related. The town is so small, everyone knows about everyone. I couldn't say anything. Everything was happening in a flash. When they broke apart, they were ready to run.
"Mia let's g-" James started. He saw me. "Mia, I'm sorry. I should have told you." He looked at Gloria, who looked smug.
"Gloria, how could you do this? See a man who is with another woman?" I croaked.
"I wasn't gonna let him. He was going to break it off with you tonight," she said. I stared at James. He was supposed to be perfect. He was supposed to be the best thing that ever happened to me. Most of all, he was supposed to be mine.
I slid to the ground. James bent down and picked me up. "Mia! This isn't a time to be sad! Let's go!"
I followed him and Gloria. The wind chilled my wet face. We turned a corner one last time, and as we ran towards my house, we stopped. We were a few houses down from mine, but I saw all I needed too. My mother, being pulled by a Confederate soldier. I was about to run, but my mother saw me. I could see it in her eyes, she wanted me to run. So I did. Away, far away. I ended up in a nearby forest. I almost forgot about James and Gloria, until I heard footsteps.
"Mia?" I heard a girlish voice say. A few yards away I saw a head of long brunette hair. Gloria. James was behind her.
I sat on a bed of leaves, leaning against a tree. Gloria and James saw me and they went to sit with me.
"Mia, I'm sorry," James whispered.
I looked up at him. "For what?"
"Your mother. I saw what happened," he said.
I nodded. I couldn't believe him. He wasn't sorry about Gloria! He wasn't sorry about breaking my heart!
"What ever happened to getting your mothers?" I sniffed.
"Neither were home. We figured it was the same situation," Gloria answered.
I nodded. "I'm sorry."
"We get it if you want to be alone," James said.
I nodded. I did. Or at least away from them. I got up and walked about fifty feet away. I sat for at least a half and hour, and then heard noises. These weren't animal noises, these were people noises. I got up and started walking back to where I was. I didn't see much through the bushes but I saw enough. I cracked a branch from a nearby tree and threw it at them.
I ran. Again. I ran as fast as I could away. I heard Gloria scream, but I didn't care. I hated her. I ran out of the forest until I saw a very familiar strawberry farm. I usually could only see the farm, but I was now close enough that I could see over the farm. I saw what looked like a camp. I ran to the nearby hill, not the one that me and James were on. I saw people walking down the hill. I didn't recognize these people. I didn't recognize this place. There were three girls, all different shapes and sizes, but all of them wore braids. I quietly followed them down. They were a bit slow, but I stayed at the same pace. They walked gracefully, so I tried to mimic them. I tripped over my shoe and fell. They turned around, and one giggled. She had bleach blonde hair, and emerald green eyes. No one said anything, but the girl helped me up and we walked to the strange building together. On the porch, there was a horse man. I remember they were called centaurs. The blonde girl whispered something to him. He nodded. He smiled at me while the girls escorted me to a small building.
The first words between us were finally said. "What is this?" I asked.
"This is Camp Half-Blood. It's a safe place for people like us, or for you, more," The blonde one answered in a British accent. "My name is Evelyn, but I go by Evie. This is Maria, and this is Paige," Evie said.
"I'm Mia," I said.
They nodded. Evie explained everything. How my father was actually a god, and not dead. I didn't understand, but I went with it. She told me she had been watching me. She saw everything that happened. She invited me to become a Hunter of Artemis.
"We swear off men. And we get to be immortal, and beautiful, but we can still die in battle," Paige told me. I accepted their offer. I was going to be a Hunter of Artemis.

-Flashback over-

I remembered those first hunters I had met. The only one who was still alive was Evie. I tried to forget about that day the most that I could. A few days after that I figured out I was a daughter of Hephaestus.
I looked at Evie. I nodded. My eyes watered. Her face changed. She saw what I was remembering.
"That was 150 years ago Mia. You can forget it, it's over," she said. It was over. It was 150 years ago. But I still couldn't forget it.
