Chapter FOUR
FIVE YEARS AGO“MUM!!” I scream from my bedroom. Five of them, scrambling through my window. Fear strikes my heart as my hand fiddles with the doorknob, hoping it opens. It does. My parents stand there, ushering me out. “Mum, dad, I’m scared,” I mumble and my mum wraps her arms around me, protecting me. The creatures are coming. One of them grabs my dad’s wrist.
“Stay here, Ry,” my mum tells me.
“Mum, what?” I ask, worried. A sweat builds on my forehead. She pushes me behind her and lunges towards dad in an attempt to pull him back. “MUM!!!’ I shout, tears falling down my face. My mind races, races so much it feels numb. Why is she doing this? Why do the creatures want to kill us? I watch in absolute horror as the creature tears at my parent’s skin. Shielding my eyes, I listen to the screams of my parents. What is going to happen to me?
Opening my eyes, I watch as the creatures come towards me, blood dripping from their mouths and fingertips. Screaming, I slam myself into the wall. I feel a hand grab me which makes me scream even louder. I look, at the creature I suppose will kill me. But instead of a creature, I see a boy. He looks around my age, maybe a bit older. He clutches my arm and runs. Pulling me out of the house and of my street. Is he taking me somewhere safe? …who is this boy…who just saved my life?
