Chapter THREE

My name is Rydin Moore. I’m a girl, sixteen years old, with long, chocolate brown hair, and sky blue eyes. My name has no meaning, my parents, who are now dead, just thought it sounded nice when they named me, but I think it sounds like a boy’s name. I have no siblings, and one friend, Jared, no matter how many times he denies it, he has a friend. He’s dark and mysterious, like his appearance. Black hair, very dark brown eyes, contrasted with pale skin. I met Jared when I was ten. He tried to help me when the creatures attacked my home, he couldn’t save my parents, but managed to save me. He’s one year older than me, so he was strong enough to save me, but after his brother was killed, he hasn’t been the same. He used to speak to me and laugh, smile even, but now, seeing him smile is rare, let alone laughing. I always try and annoy him to make him smile.
“Jared!” I gush, skipping over to where he sits. He looks up at me, fear struck across his expression. “Jared..?” I interrogate, worry slipping off my words.
“We can’t live like this forever!” Jared growls, loud, but only loud enough for me to hear.
“What do you mean?” I ask pathetically.
“You know exactly what I mean!” He’s right. I do know what he means. His long, bony fingers brush through his, slightly long, black hair. It’s not too long, just sneaks down his neck a bit, with a fringe that reaches the tip of his nose. “We can’t live in fear and anxiety, always wondering when our lives are going to end.”
“Our lives aren’t going to end…”
“How can you be sure?!”
“We. Have. Guns…DUH.”
“Rydin, this is serious!”
“I am being serious!”
“NO YOU’RE NOT!” standing there stiffly, I nod and listen to the sound of his loud, cruel words echoing in my head. He stands up and walks over to the window. I stay in the dark and gloomy corner. I hear whispers around the room. ‘he’s so mean,’ ‘his manners are appalling,’. I guess he is kinda mean and his manners ARE appalling, but he saved me… I owe him my life.
