The Cliques

Oakwood High has a very strict policy - no mixing. That means you can only interact with people in your clique. The clique you were assigned to. But Ali is determined to change that.

Chapter 2

Ali was walking through the hallways, trying to get to Social Studies, when she felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned around, and to her horror, it was Wanda Pelletier!
"Hello!" Wanda exclaimed, giving a toothy grin. "I heard you're in my clique. Awesome!" She grabbed Ali's hand and squeezed it. "Come on. I have Social Studies now, too! We can sit together!"
Ali mentally gagged. "Er.. okay.." she muttered, hesitantly continuing to walk.
Wanda kept chattering. "I had a weird dream last night! I was flying, but there were zombies and vampires, and then I was a werewolf, way up high on a building. I wonder what it means? Oh yeah, and then I fell off, but I had a parachute, and I landed on a pile of carrots. By the way, did you know that the same amount of force it takes to bite into a carrot is the same amount it takes to bite off your pinkie finger? Yeah, me neither. Weird, huh?" Wanda paused to take a breath. "What do you think about slavery? I don't like it. I wonder if we'll have a slavery discussion in class today. If we do, we can both talk! We can talk at the same time and confuse the teacher. That would be hilarious."
Ali clenched her jaw. Wanda's endless babbling entered Ali's brain, squeezing it, tickling it. It got inside her ears. It drove her insane. She let out a sigh. "Ugh! Wanda! Shut up for now, okay?" Ali snapped.
Wanda blinked. "What? Why?" Then she got a knowing look. "Okay, I will! Us people in the Dream Clique are nice, so we will always apologize if we're mean."
Ali felt a pang of guilt, but it quickly passed. "Whatever." She pulled away from Wanda, and made a show of wiping her hand on her pants. "I'll be in Social Studies. Don't sit next to me." She speed-walked to the Social Studies classroom, weaving in and out of the crowds of people. When she arrived, she slid into one of the last free seats. Miss Miller, the teacher, was writing something on the board.
Out of the corner of her eye, Ali saw Wanda pop into the room and sit a few seats away from Ali.
Miss Miller turned away from the board, revealing what she'd written. "Ahem, class!" she said. "Today we will be talking about slavery. I'm going to call on a random person.. Hmm.... Wanda!" She pointed to Wanda. "What are your opinions on slavery?"
Wanda snuck a glance at Ali and winked. "I don't like it! It's bad! People shouldn't force other people to do things for them."
Ali stayed silent, and Wanda looked hurt. She made the 1, 2, 3 gesture with her hand, and then exclaimed, "Which one of us is which?"
Ali was still silent. Wanda's face fell. Ali looked away, determined not to feel ashamed.
But deep inside of her, she wondered: Is Wanda really that bad?

Cool story, I'd probably be in the dream/imagination clique. I'm since I often prefer fantasy to reality
