Chapter 1: A Really Bad Day

Naruto was not having a good day.

First, he had woken up late for work because his alarm clock didn't go off. Thanks to that, he had been late to a mandatory staff meeting at 8:15, and had been held back by his constantly drunk boss, Tsunade, to be yelled at for five whole minutes. Next, he had accidentally spilled coffee on his almost finished main article for the politics section of Konoha Times, which he had spent hours with no sleep on last night, and had to start it all over again. And finally, the icing on the cake, when he was getting back from his lunch break, he had caught his friend Kiba kissing his secretary, Hinata, who was supposed to be running his finally completed article to the head of the department, Inoichi Yamanaka.

After reprimanding her (which resulted in an embarrassed flush and a stuttered "yes, sir") and glaring at Kiba for impeding his work (that Kiba had tactfully retreated from), he was now sitting in his office with his head in his hands and praying to the Gods above that nothing else would happen.
Of course, the Gods laughed in his face, and sent Sakura to his office. Not that he had anything against Sakura, no, it was quite the opposite in fact. They were good friends, and frequently went out to a nearby Starbucks for lunch when they both had aligned schedules. No, the problem lay in the fact that whenever Sakura walked into his office with that gleam in her bright green eyes, it always spelt trouble for him.

"Ne, Naruto," Sakura started, a suspicious amount of casualty in her tone and posture, "what would you say to coming to a party tonight? Kiba, Ino, Neji, Tenten, Hinata, Shikamaru, Chouji, Lee, and I are all going, and I wanted to know if you want to be there, as well. You do need to socialize more. Kakashi's been rubbing off on you."

"Hey! I'll have you know, I object to that!" Naruto huffed, crossing his arms and pouting at Sakura, "Kakashi is perfectly fine at socialization, he just doesn't see the point in it. He's the best self-defense teacher a guy could ask for."

Sighing, Sakura clasped her hands behind her back, saying, "While I don't doubt that's what you believe, that doesn't exactly mean it's true, Naruto. Anyway, party, yes or no?"

Leaning back in his office chair, Naruto assessed the pinkette in front of him, "You're not gonna let me say no, are you?"

Sakura laughed shamelessly, throwing her head back, before smiling at Naruto with a twinkle of mirth in her eyes. "You're learning, that's a good thing. Now we all know that you do indeed have a brain somewhere in that head of yours," she joked.

"Hey, it's always been there. I just choose not to use it," Naruto joked back lightly.

Chuckling, Sakura replied, "Valid point, there. Well, I gotta go and finish up my leftover paperwork. Wait for me after work, I'm not letting you dress yourself in that horrid orange thing you have in your closet for this party."

Then she left, and Naruto groaned in frustration, before banging his head on his desk, wondering what went on inside females' heads. Maybe the extra X-chromosome made them more susceptible to insanity? The world would never know.
