Chapter 4.

Nadiya's Memories

“Look who decided to show up.” Nadiya teases. Kofi glares at her and plasters a smile on his face.

        “Where’s Amandla?”

“In the bathroom,” She sighs. “How’s life?”

        “Fine.” He groans.

“Look Kof,” Nadiya says nervously. “I still care about you.” She grins.

“Well I don’t.” He says while staring at a wall.

“You don’t have to cruel like that.” She says sadly. “I know I dissed you when we were dating, but I did care about you.” She cries.

“Hey, hey. Don’t cry.” He says while wiping tears from her face. “I cared about you then, and I still do.” Nadiya smiles. “Come here.” He says while hugging her softly. “It’s hard to forgive for what you’ve done. I’m trying. I just feel like I can’t.”

“I’ll do anything. I just want to be friends with you.” The girl says desperately. “I know Amandla doesn’t know we’ve dated before, and I want it to say this way,” She pauses. “Because I’ve always loved you, and I still do. But I know you don’t feel the same.” She nudges him in the hip. “Remember our first kiss?” She asks.

“Yeah,” Kofi says trying to remember. “It was,” He pauses.

        “Magical.” Nadiya smiles.

“I want to forgive you Nad.” He says looking her in the eye. He watches them turn blue. “This is just too much. You know I love Amandla, and she trusts you.” He shakes his head. “She’ll find out someday, and It won’t be from me.”

Tears roll down her cheek. She puts her hand on her heart and says, “You make me feel so guilty. You make me feel like it’s my fault we broke up!”

“It isn’t.” He lies. Nadiya’s caramel cheeks turned rosy red. He feels guilty for a second and decides to tell the truth. “It is.” He concedes. “I don’t want to lie to you.” He says in a meaningful gesture. “You were the one cheating, you were the one who broke my heart. You were selfish.”

“That’s ridiculous.” Nadiya yells. She looks around to make sure no one’s listening. “I might’ve treated you bad for a minute, but you always treat me like crap.” She whispers angrily.

“No one ever said I had to treat you like an angel.”

“I want to be respected by you. That’s all I want!”

“Do you think I’ll respect you after all the things you’ve done? You’re dead to me Nad.” He shouts. “I pity the fool who tries to love a girl like you!”

“That’s enough!” Nadiya rolls her eyes. “Go ahead and act like weren’t together. I don’t care. Argh, I hate you!” She cries. “Don’t you dare look at me again!” She says while grabbing her pastel pink purse and sashaying away, allowing her red velvet heels to clack. “Remind me not to mess with dudes who clearly don’t have a heart.” She mutters to herself.

Kofi puts his head on the table and sighs in pain. He allows tears, that he felt were meaningless fall down into his palm that covered his eyes. His auburn brown eyes sparkled like a diamond as he cried quietly. He didn’t want to be here anymore, not at school, and not even at home. He couldn’t help but think about how many times he’s been let down, a lot.
