Chapter 9.

the girl

Hours past and Ned continued to drink and talk story with Noel. He had five drinks within one hour. It was like that there was no end to his drinks as if he brought a cooler full of beer. He would offer Noel a drink every once and awhile but Noel would refuse him. It was time to fight. It was pitch dark in the ring besides torch light the illuminated the ground. There were torches on the pillars. He was to fight in the pillars. He walked over to the pillars with both of his axes in hand. A tall women with paint covering her face and two knives in her hands. “C’mon I can’t fight a girl.” Noel called over to her. “You are a coward than.” She called back. Noel sighed. “Fine then.” He called back.

The announcer boomed throughout the colosseum. “The first fights of tonight’s finals!” The crowd cheered. “May your steel decide your fate and your skills keep you alive.” He called. Noel looked up at him. “Fight!” He boomed. Noel looked back at the women and she was gone. Noel panicked and he started to look around through the pillars. She was nowhere to be found. “Let’s hope that this mistake didn’t cost my life.” He said to himself. He looked around scanning each pillar looking for any movement. “Where are you.” He mumbled to himself. He searched he pillars one more time and couldn’t find her no movement. Ned was watching his fight on the side. “If you can’t see then listen!” He called out. Noel looked at him then back at the pillars again. Instead this time he listened carefully. He heard something crumble behind him. He snapped around and looked at one of the pillars. Rubble was falling. “Found you.” He said with an evil grin. He started to walk to the pillar. “C’mon the game is over Time to fight mono e mono.” He called to the women on the pillar. “You were calling me a coward too at the begging and now you’re hiding I would call you a hypocrite.” He called. The women dropped down from the pillar and faced Noel. “how did you get up there?” He asked. The women snarled at her. “calm down puppy.” He mocked her. He realized that he struck one of her nerves. She shrieked and charged at him. Noel ducked before she  reached him and she slammed into his side he stood up and flipped her to the ground and came down with his axe but she managed to roll out of the way before it hit her. “That was your first mistake.” He said as he raised his axe out of the ground and swung it at the women’s legs but she jumped over the low swing. “You’re quick aren’t you?” He asked with sarcasm. The girl smirked. “Don’t get cocky.”

He told her and jabbed at her stomach while she was in the air.. She dogged it but barley. The blade caught her side and left a deep gash. She winced but didn’t run. Instead she landed and swiped at Noel with her knives. Her swipes were lightning fast almost unreadable. Noel jumped back to put some distance between the two of them. Noel waited for her to charge at him again. She jumped over his low swing but was caught by his overhead swing in the shoulder. Her arm fell next  to him and she hit the ground behind him. Blood poured down on Noel’s head. He turned around and came down on her other shoulder . She screamed in pain “I yield!” She cried out. Noel  smiled. “Was that so hard?” He asked. The girl cried. Noel’s heart went out to her. “I’m sorry.” He mumbled. “There is no need for apology.” Ned called as he walked towards him. “She called you a coward and yet she yielded instead of excepting her fate, like a coward.” Noel looked back at the crying women. Ned put a hand on his shoulder. ‘Hey I know it’s hard but remember why you are fighting.” He told Noel. ‘There are greater things then the wellbeing of this coward now let’s get ready for your next battle.”  He said as he took Noel by his shoulder and lead him to the hall.
