Chapter 3.

Goldpaw stands up for herself

Goldpaw put the vole in the fresh-kill pile then went to the medicine cat
den to see if Fireheart was there. When she looked inside she saw Yellowfang and Cinderpaw.

“Hello there, Goldpaw.” Yellowfang said, going towards her. “How can I help you?”

“Actually, I’m looking for Fireheart.” Goldpaw replied.  “Is he here?”

“Sorry, he left a while ago.” Yellowfang replied. “He went hunting with Graystripe.”

“Oh, it’s okay.” Goldpaw said. “Is this Cinderpaw?”

“Yep.” Yellowfang replied. “Say hi, Cinderpaw.”

Cinderpaw went up to Goldpaw smiling.

“Hi, Goldpaw!” She said, smiling bigger. “I can’t believe I am talking to Fireheart’s sister!”

“Nice to meet you, Cinderpaw!” Goldpaw said, smiling.

“What is your warrior name going to be?” Cinderpaw asked.

“Hmm, not sure yet.” Goldpaw replied. “But what really gets me is that some cats are still calling me kittypet.”

“You can’t let what those cats say about you get into you.” Yellowfang said. “They still call Fireheart a kittypet sometimes, but that never stopped him from being a great warrior. “

“I guess you’re right, Yellowfang.” Goldpaw said, smiling. “I will do as you say, I will not let those bully cats get to me.”

Goldpaw left the medicine cat den with her head down, wondering if her Twoleg will come looking for her.  Goldpaw looked up and saw Fireheart and Graystripe walking  to the fresh pile with a rabbit hanging from Graystripe’s jaws. Goldpaw was running to meet them when she accidentally ran into Tigerclaw.

“Watch where you're going!” Tigerclaw growled.

“I am so sorry!” Goldpaw said, in fear.

Fireheart and Graystripe looked towards where Tigerclaw and Goldpaw were.

“Even though you're still new here, you have to be careful and watch your surroundings.” Tigerclaw growled.

“I-I didn’t mean too!” Goldpaw cried.

Fireheart and Graystripe ran to where Goldpaw and Tigerclaw were at.

“She didn’t mean too, Tigerclaw.” Fireheart said. “Please forgive her.”

“You have to tough  up, Goldpaw.” Tigerclaw said. “Tomorrow you will have training with Willowpelt. I don’t want you to cry like this anymore! Are you still a kittypet?”

“I guess not…” Goldpaw replied, whimpering.

“Are you still a kittypet?” Tigerclaw asked again.

“N-no?” Goldpaw replied.

“Say it like you mean it!” Tigerclaw snarled. “Are you still a kittypet?!”

“No!” Goldpaw said ferociously, “I am not a kittypet no more!”

“That’s better.” Tigerclaw said, nodding. “Now go get something to eat and sleep well, tomorrow Willowpelt will teach you how to fight. Remember, find your voice and be confident! Understand?”

“Yes, Tigerclaw!” Goldpaw said with a proud look on her face.

Goldpaw grabbed a vole and padded to the apprentices den. She laid down and ate it all up. Before she headed to the nursery to check on her kit, Goldpaw grabbed a bird from the fresh kill pile to bring to Brindleface.

“How is he doing?” Goldpaw said, putting the bird down next to Brindleface.

“He is doing very well.” Brindleface said, taking a bite off of the bird.  “He and my kits are getting along too. Thank you for the bird, I’m so hungry I could eat the whole Fresh kill pile!”

Goldpaw laughed with Brindleface as she went over to her kit and licked it. It wasn’t long before Longtail and Darkstripe padded to the nursery.

“Hey kittypet, we overheard Willowpelt talking to Bluestar!” Longtail sneered.

“We heard Willowpelt tell Bluestar you got a big plumped Vole today.” Darkstripe said. “Not bad for a Kittypet!”

Goldpaw became angry to where she was at the point where she had to yell.

“I am not a kittypet anymore!” She yelled so loud that Fireheart raced to the nursery to see what was going on.

“You are a kittypet!” Longtail grinned. “Just like your kittypet kit and your kittypet brother! Go back to the Twoleg, Princess!”

“Fireheart is not a kittypet!” Goldpaw snarled. “I am not a kittypet no more! Now, I want the both of y’all to stop calling me a kittypet!”

She went closer to Longtail, with a mean look on her face.

“And my name is Goldpaw!” She growled. “It’s not Princess no more!”

She stormed out the nursery with Fireheart following her, leaving Longtail and Darkstripe speechless.

“That was so good!” Fireheart said, cheering for Goldpaw.

“You really think so?” Goldpaw asked, with a smile.

“Yes!” Fireheart replied. “Good job, sis!”

“Yes, very good job.” Tigerclaw said, coming towards them.

“You saw the whole thing?” Goldpaw asked.

“Heard the whole thing.” Tigerclaw replied. “You got quite a voice there, we need that in Thunderclan. Good job finding your voice and being confident.”

“Thanks, Tigerclaw.” Goldpaw said, grinning. “I really appreciate that.”

“Now, go get some rest, The both of you.” Tigerclaw said. “We need more fresh-kill, so Fireheart, can you and Graystripe go back out again tomorrow?”

“Yes, Tigerclaw.” Fireheart replied.

“Will I get my warrior name, tomorrow?” Goldpaw asked, brightly.

“It’s up to Bluestar.” Tigerclaw replied. “I’m afraid you won’t get your warrior name for quite a while.”

“Oh..” Goldpaw said, disappointed. “Okay..”

Goldpaw and Fireheart padded to the den and washed themselves, after they did Goldpaw found a comfortable spot to sleep. Goldpaw felt good standing up for herself. She couldn’t wait until she got her warrior name.
