Chapter 2.

McKenzie's POV - Not Ready

"Come on, Kenz, you two would be great!" Phiara exclaimed.
I gave a fake half smile. No, we would not be great. Me and Miles are complete opposites, we never agree, and he reminds me of my grandfather. I didn't know what to say, I didn't want to be too harsh.
"Um, I'm not really sure. I mean, I wouldn't want to ruin our friendship," I said, as if I wasn't completely sure what I was saying. But whatever I put into that sentence, it worked. Miles nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, uh, we wouldn't want to mess anything up," Miles explained.
"Nonsense, it would only make your bond stronger," Kayla said. Henna, Harry, and Phiara nodded in agreement. The rest of the group only looked at us with hope.
I looked at Miles. He looked at me. We both kinda smiled at each other. I mean, we could probably just put it on for show, since there was no way out of this.
"Fine," I gave in.
"I guess," Miles said.
All of the girls giggled with delight. I put on another fake smile. I glanced over to the girl who was reading. She had dozed off by now. I decided I wanted to just go to sleep, just like her.
"I'm going to bed," I said.
"Well, okay, bye," Henna said.

I walked into the dorm, and slumped onto my fourposter bed. The lights were off, so I assumed no one was here.
"Tough night?" I heard a voice ask. It was Octavia Aberforth. "Lumos."
Her wand light shone through the whole room.
"I guess," I responded.
"Care to talk about it? I'm a great listener," she said.
I sighed. "Can I get a rain-check for tomorrow? I'm a little tired, that's all."
Her expression deflated. "Oh, okay. Well, you get your rest. See you in the morning."
Even with her wand light, I closed my eyes and fell asleep instantly.
