Chapter 3

~One Year Later~

Over the past year, a lot had changed. Sienna Khan replaced Ghira Belladonna as supreme leader of the White Fang, after he tried to peacefully negotiate with the huntsman that were on the island. They didn’t listen, and people died because of it. Adam was the only reason we weren’t all dead too. The White Fang had had enough, and they voted to replace him with Sienna. Now, however, I was training for a new mission.
I sprinted through the trees in the form of a wolf, my favorite form, followed by Adam Taurus, again. As I passed a tree, I turned into a squirrel and climbed the tree before turning into a black panther and waiting for Adam to run underneath me.
As I heard him approach, I got ready to pounce. I saw him run past and jumped. I pinned him to the ground, and he laughed.
“Okay, okay!” he exclaimed. “You win!” I smiled, showing fangs, and turned back into myself, laying on the ground next to him. “I fall for that every time.” I nodded before our scrolls went off at the exact same time. I looked at mine.
“Sienna,” I said. We got up and ran to headquarters. As we walked in, Sienna looked at us.
“Thank you for getting here so quickly, even though I expected nothing less from you two.” We nodded. “It’s time for that mission you’ve been preparing for.” I smiled. “The two of you are going undercover as workers for the Schnee Dust Company. You need to get as much dust as you can. We don’t know how long this will be, but we’ll let you know.” We nodded again.
“When do we need to leave?” Adam asked. Sienna smiled.
“Now.”

~~~
I’ll be honest, it wasn’t as hard to get into SDC as I thought it would be. Once we were inside, they set us to work. They sent us to a group and we went straight into the mines. After a couple days of working, we had produced a fair amount of dust, enough for a hundred people to use for a year. As we hid it in the containers Sienna had sent with us, we were unaware of people watching us.
“Guard!” someone yelled. “Guard, they’re stealing dust!” I looked at the boy across from us with wide eyes. Before we knew it, we were grabbed from behind and dragged away. I don’t know how far we were taken, but eventually they started to drag us separate ways. I struggled to break free of my guard’s grip.
“Adam!” I yelled. He looked at me with wide eyes full of apology, then he was gone.
~I’m not writing this scene because 1) I’d probably start crying and 2) it’s kinda gruesome~
As I was thrown out of the Schnee Dust Company with a burning mark on my collarbone and my throat sore from screaming, I looked around for Adam. Once I found him, I ran towards him. When he saw me, he turned away.
“Adam,” I said, my voice gravelly. “What is it?” He shook his head. I placed my hand under his chin and turned his head towards me. Across his left eye, where there used to be a stunning blue eye, was now a mark similar to the one on my collarbone: a brand, bearing the letters “SDC”. Tears filled my eyes, and I wrapped my arms around his neck.
