Stars twinkle in the night sky as a grey wolf settles down to rest. She has scarcely closed her eyes when a paw pokes her side.“Andy…” a soft voice whispers. “Aaaaannnnnddddyyyyy…”
Andy moans and turns over. Her eyes pop open, a striking blue, turned silver in the moonlight. Its toki. No doubt he’s scared, and wants to sleep with his big sister.
Andy’s thoughts are confirmed when his squeaky, pup-like voice asks “Andy? Can I sleep with you?”
Andy moans and turns back over.
“Andy, plllllleeeeeaaaaaassssseee?”
“Toki nnnnnnoooooooooo!” Andy moans.
“Would you let Nat or Lori or Ema sleep with you when they get scared?”
Andy pondered this for a moment, and finally her answer came. “Yes”.
Andy grinned. “Because you talk too much!”
Toki grinned back, and snuggled into the curve of Andy’s back. Andy looked around, and once more closed her eyes and sank into sleep.
Andy raced through the woods. It was the woods she’d always known, except the limbs were strangely bare. It was leafbud, though. As she walked, a strange mist seeped out of the trees. She couldn’t see, and ran blindly, tripping on rocks and roots. All of the sudden, a pit was in front of her. Andy didn’t have time to skid to a stop before tumbling headfirst into the yawning black mouth.
